Changes to Baseball Mogul Online
Hello, Baseball Mogul Online players –
As we enter the 2002 baseball season, we at Sports Mogul are gearing up for the new Baseball Mogul Online season. In response to your emails and comments, we are preparing to upgrade our online game with a number of new features and game improvements.
Those of you who have heard about the new features in the Baseball Mogul 2003 CD-ROM are already familiar with some of the new BBMO features, which include:
Year-by-Year stats in the scouting reports
Ability to set concession prices
A Hall of Fame
Fixing some long-term play balance problems
Ability to change league commissioners
We plan to have these new game features operational in the coming weeks, and we will roll them out in stages as they are finished.
In addition to the new game features, we are taking this opportunity to introduce some new rules that we believe will raise the level of competition in Baseball Mogul Online, based on our experience with the game so far.
These new rules will help to ensure that there are more human players in all of the leagues. They will also help to reduce the load on the game servers, resulting in faster and timelier simulations. This should help reduce the lag between the scheduled time of a simulation and the time the new results are available.
We have listed the new rules below, so that you can become familiar with them. Some of them have just been implemented, and others will be introduced soon.
We will closely monitor the impact these new rules have on the playability and enjoyability of our games. We may amend these new rules based on your user experience. We welcome your feedback, and hope you will help us continue to fine-tune our games to make them better for everyone.
We hope you enjoy the new game features and rules. Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
James Grove and the Sports Mogul Team
New Baseball Mogul Online Rules
Minimum number of players in a league
Beginning March 23, 2002, any online league that has 2 or fewer players in it will be paused for up to 30 days. While the league is paused, no simulations will take place, although players will be able to log in and make trades and lineup changes. If new players join the league and this increases the number of owners to three or more, then the league will be un-paused and simulations will resume.
If the league remains paused with two or fewer users for 30 days, then the league will be disbanded.
Disbanding Leagues
If an online league is paused for 30 days due to an insufficient number of users, it will be disbanded.
A League will also be disbanded immediately if is has only 1 user, and if that user quits the league, leaving it empty.
Commissioners will no longer be able to automatically disband leagues that they own. Instead they will be allowed to transfer or release the leagues (see below).
Releasing a League you Own
If you are the commissioner of a league and you want to get rid of it, you will now be able to release it to the general public. You may want to do this if you want to start a new league, or if you are dropping down to a lower subscription level. When you release a league, it becomes a public league with no password and no commissioner.
If you are a player in the league you release, releasing the league will not automatically remove you from the league. You will remain a participant in the now-public league until you choose to quit it, unless you are the only person in the league.
If there is nobody in your league, or if you are the only person in your league, the league will be disbanded automatically when you release it.
Transferring a League to a New Commissioner
If you are the commissioner of a private league, you can now transfer this league to a new owner, who will become the commissioner. The new commissioner must have a Gold or Silver account, and they must have at least 1 free space for starting / owning a league.
If you are a player in the league you transfer, transferring the league will not automatically remove you from the league. You will remain a participant in the league under the new commissioner until you choose to quit it.
Starting a New League
We are changing the requirements for a new league to begin simulations. Previously the league would start from 1 to 7 days after the commissioner created it. This was designed to allow new players to join the league, so it would have many players when it started.
Beginning on March 23, all new leagues will begin when they have reached a minimum number of players, instead of after a minimum amount of time.
Leagues created by commissioners with Silver accounts will begin when a minimum of 10 people have joined the league.
Leagued created by commissioners with Gold accounts will begin when a minimum of 5 people have joined the league.
Public leagues will begin when a certain number of people have joined the league. The required number will vary by league, depending how popular the public leagues are, and whether there is a high demand for that particular kind of league (sim times, dates, etc.)
The minimum number of players required will be shown on the Find a League results screen, similar to the way it currently shows "Starts in X days."
Commissioners will have the option of increasing the required number of players, in order to ensure that the league is more full when it starts. So a commissioner with a silver account could choose to set up his league to begin simulations when anywhere from 10 to 30 players have joined the league.
