This is in my bug compilation, but I think it needs it own thread.

I rarely see any free agent or pending free agent ask for less than 4 years. In real life, only stars get contracts that long. Your league average second basemen more than likely is going to get a series of 1-2 year contracts, than one 5 year contract paying him 3 million a year. Basically, it needs a lot of adjusting.

Every player in real life asks for outragously long contracts at the beginning of free agency. They only come down in their demands when teams determine the players value. It works the same in mogul, players will come down in their demands as you progress through free agency.

Maybe if they're represented by Scott Boras ;). But seriously, I think most players in real life are generally more reasonable than in Mogul. I don't think a career AAA player would dream he could ask for (and get) a 4-year contract from one team. The same goes for bench players, etc.

I concur to a point with HoustonGM; if players who have been career minor leaguers or bench players started to ask for 2 year contracts at most (instead of the 3-4 year deals they want now), I'd think that would probably be good. Generally those types in real life would get that length of deal at most. About league average players I think it does kind of get blurry about what would be good; on the one hand I think that maybe they do ask for too long of deals, but on the other hand you see players like Cristian Guzman signing a 4 year deal. Whether or not that was a smart move by the team is debatable, but the fact is that it happens and it gives other players/agents something to aim for. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the computer generally doesn't work contract lengths down, does it? If the AI could do that, this problem might be lessened because players would end up settling for 2-3 year deals at most.

No, the AI doesnt seem to work the lengths down.

Scatman: as you progress through the offseason, their VALUE will come down, but I never see their actual years wanted come down until the season starts. And besides, either way, in real life, players who sign early or late in the offseason always sign to 1-3 year contracts, except if they're stars (usually). In Mogul, only you can shorten the contracts, and in order to get the player to accept a shortened contract, you have to drastically increase the dollar value.

Fixed for 9.35. Also added a dropdown box in the League Editor that lets you adjust Contract Lengths if you don't like the way I fixed things.
