I was playing with the Royals against the Indians and Rafael Betancourt saved the first two games and was not credited with a save. IN the box score it mentions his name in the save column and in parenthesis states (0). It happened the first two games of the year.

What makes it unplayable?
The only major bug was that you can't play away games - but that only makes it unplayable for those who play each game.

well, in all thing like this I beleave that the truth is somewhere in the middle.
I wouldn't say that .41 is unplayable. however, unless it solves a specific problem that bother's you, and you can live with the largest problem with it (no being able to play-by-play away games) there's no reason to upgrade to it.
Simply put, you need to become informed and make a choice based on your needs. This should only be a problem for a few more days though, since I'm sure that Clay is working on .42.

For those of us that do play every game, there is no "middle" here in not being able to play your away games. That is a show stopping bug that does indeed make the game nothing less then unplayable with patch 41.
*shrug* With the alternative here of having to experience your power pitchers' movement drastically drop in the offseason (which still seems to be happening in 41 anyway, btw), the game is personally shelved for me until this issue is resolved.
At least i was finally able to get in my first full season sim though, which played out pretty solid ;) .

9.41 makes the game unplayable for those who play every game, but it doesn't affect people who don't play any games.

Are the official save rules being applied?
According to the offical rules:
"The pitcher fulfills at least one of the following three conditions:
(1) He comes into the game with a lead of no more than three runs, and pitches at least one full inning.
(2) He comes into the game with the potential tying run being either on base, at bat, or on deck.
(3) He pitches effectively for at least 3 innings after entering the game with a lead and finishes the game. "
I am almost certain I played a match where I had a 4 run-lead, and the closer came in with 1 out in the top of the 9th with 2 runners on (so the potential tying run was on deck), but the closer didn't get the save. It's been a while, so I'll see if I can find another situation like it and make a screen cap.
Thank you for this great game.

I recently re-wrote a log of the save code, so even if there was a bug with the 'Type 2' save, it should now be fixed in 9.42.
