The Range Factor is calculated by adding the total number of chances the player has and dividing by games played at that position. In other words, how many hits does the player have a chance to catch/field per game?

The Range shows how the player's Range Factor compares to players at that position throughout the rest of the league. So if your player's range is +10%, he has above average range. If he is -10%, he has below average range.

Expenses:
Farm system controls and quality of prospects you receive each year, the number of prospects your receive each year, and how they develop in the minor leagues. Having a higher farm system will generally give you more rookies of higher quality that develop faster.

Scouting controls the accuracy of the ratings and the paragraph in the scouting reports. If you have excellent scouting, your scouts' ratings and paragraph will be accurate. If your scouting is poor, your ratings and paragraph will be inaccurate and may change very dramatically between simulations (like go from B+ contact to C- contact in one simulation, although the player's ability hasn't changed). It also determines the accuracy of the Auto-Sort button.

Medical/Health controls how often your players get injured and how long they are injured for. Having a good medical staff will limit injuries, and make sure any injured player recovers quickly.

All these expenses are decided by your average rank (not the amount you spend) over the past 162 regular season game.
