Keep the fans happy and let them vote? Or leave it to managers and players so that certain individuals who should be on the rosters, actually make it not just the fan favourites.

I would like to see a fan vote game followed on day two by a real All-Star game, a game where the real best of the best get to play against each other. Ideally I'd like to see an All-Star week. You could combine the WBC with it have all of the games and the HR derby then go back to business as usual. This could be modeled on the World Cup. You could have one major central city host the AS games and Derby while smaller local cities host the various world games. In Boston for example, you'd have Boston hosting the All-Star games and championship WBC game and HR derby. You could spread the WBC games out to Hartford CT, Providence RI, Portland ME, Nashua NH, and Springfield MA. It'd work out well if you planned it right.

Something's certainly wrong when the guy with the best ERA in either league has to wait for someone to drop out in order to get in! Neither option would fix that.

I guess I wouldnt care so much who voted IF all that was used for criteria were stats. Plain ol' stats.

I say it should generally be kept as fan ballots. However, there should be a sports writers component and a player's and a Manager's pick(s) as well.

I don't like the writers having a vote either. Too many homers/grudges there as well. Give the players and managers ballots and let them vote. The catch would be that there would be no one from their own team on the ballots that they get. That'll prevent a lot of favoritism, but not all.

i dont think that would matter with the way players move teams so often these days. they have 'friends' all over the league and 'enemies' on thier own team.

Its all part of the entertainment business. A chance for the MLB to put on its best show, its best face and it greatest "heroes"

The writters should vote the players in. ANd make it a rule, you cant vote for the league you are in :)
