What do you mean Team and Play Options?

In negotiations, you can give a player a "Player Option" or a "Team Option." Meaning, when his regular contract expires, a "Team Option" would give the team a choice to keep the player at the specified value. A "PLayer Option" would give the player the choice.

I've never actually used either contract option myself. The players and their agents seem to want exorbanent values in order to accept a team option, and it seems that you can always bid out of a player option demand for as little as $50k.

Does anyone really uses them.

I do if I am locking up a Young Superstar for a 10 year deal!

I do, on a daily basis. I almost always force star players to go to the bench for at least 1 extra year till arbitration so i can lock them up for 10 years. You have to sometimes pay 6 million for a 2 million dollar player but when he is at his peak and a 15 million player... You are still paying under 8 million!!! Low risk... High reward. Than you bring up another stud through you system at the same position and you can get him for even cheaper since he will have to sit on the bench for 3 years. Trade the first guy and over about 15 years you have a team of all 90+ starters and a bench of all 85+ with a wicked pitching staff for less than 100 Million. In a big market team you can make a ton that way.

I used them for about 2 weeks in 2K6. Then I realized the AI doesn't use them - ever - so I stopped as a sort of house rule to prevent my teams from being to powerful. Really wish this problem would be addressed in a patch, it has never worked right since the feature was introduced.

i also use them all the time. What i do is sign them for a 7 year contract them give em a player option for an outrageous amount like 40 million. they lower there demands alot. for example instead of wanting 10 million for 7 years. they'll take 8 million for 7 year plus a 3 year player option at 40 million a year. then ill either trade em or renegoitate when the 7 years is up. I know its immoral and probably considered cheating but i am the brewers so i need all the help i can get.

lol
That's ingenious... although it probably is cheating.
