Clay, I know you fixed something ealrier than improved the save totals, but they're still very low compared to real life. In Mogul, it's semi-rare for a 40+ save closer. In 2005, 9 closers had over 40 saves, and 2004 had 10 guys with over 40 saves. The amoutn of closers with over 30 seems correct, but Im not sure why they're just not reaching 40 often. I posted this bug elsewhere, and it might have a small effect no this - sometimes, the closer comes in in the mid-innings. That should be fixed if it could.

here's the problem with the closer coming in early.

Shimazaki is my closer:

DETROIT ip h bb hr r er k pit ERA
J. Bonderman 6.0 4 3 0 3 3 4 125 3.98
T. Shimazaki 2.2 1 0 0 0 0 3 44 0.82
A. Pratt 0.1 0 0 0 0 0 1 6 4.20
TOTALS 9.0 5 3 0 3 3 8 175
So Andy Pratt got the save..

huh, that's strange. I know that it at least used to use the guy in the setup slot for that role. I wonder what's changed?

I don't know, but I'm thinking if that little annoyance is fixed, we might just see save totals go up to real-life norms.

At the very least they'll be more correct.

I've been usinb Turnbow from the Brewers and he has had more that 40 save a couple of times in 2k7 It is not that rare to me

once was 40
then 47 in another game
then 42 in a nother

1) Are you playing play-by-play?
2) It happens for 1 or 2 players a year, maybe. However, like I said, in 2005 9 players had 40 saves, and in 2004 10 players had 40 saves. The amount of closers who reach 30 saves is about the same in Mogul and real life. However, the amount that reach 40 is very low in Mogul compared to real life.

I've noticed on many occasions when I sim for a week or more my "closer" isn't always used in the closer role. In simming an entire season what often happens is I'll get one guy with 25-30 saves, another with 5-7, another with 3-4, 1-3, etc. This even though my "closer" wasn't injured and performed well in his apperances. It's one of the reasons I rarely sim more than a game at a time. However, there was one season in which my closer picked up 41 or 42 saves--though my team won some ridiculous number of games, like 115.

The relief pitcher AI is fairly complicated. It wants to pick the right guy from the pen based on who's rested, what the batter's handedness is, the score, inning etc.

And then it has to "balance" it all. Otherwise, for example, if you have 4 lefties in your pen the 2 righties will get overused.

Anyway, there WAS a bug that if the setup guy or short reliever (or sometimes even the middle reliever) was tired or hurt or didn't have the platoon advantage, it would bring in the closer instead. Thus the closer occasionally came into the middle of the game.

I'm pretty sure I've fixed this with 9.42M. In my first test the save totals looked right. In the 2nd test they still looked good AND Isringhausen got 56 saves (out of 107 Cardinals wins) -- one short of Bobby Thigpen's all-time record.
