If there were more gun control laws, at least another would have been stabbed (http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/07/21/D8J0MBOG2.html)
In MA the hero would have been charged with: unlawful possesion of a handgun, carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a concealed weapon in a motor vehicle, unlawful arrest, and probobly a few other democrat laws.

It doesn't. There do happen to be a lot of politicians in tha Democratic party right now that hold either Socialist or Communistic political ideals. We aren't talking about northern european socialists either. The views and ideas being put forth are very similar to the Russian Socialism/Communism of the cold war era. Nothing good ever comes from those political ideals except in theory. Those political ideals, once put into practice, create a power vacuum which is/has always been filled by a dictator. The more power given to the government under those regimes, the more vile the leader produced seems to be. It's not just the Democratic party that has potential for despotism right now either. The Republicans are beginning to lean in a direction that seems to be leading towards backing a Roman emperor like figure for a president/candidate. That's why Mitt Romney as a candidate bothers me. He often behaves as a Roman emperor would. I agree with King in that we're all in big trouble no matter which way we go right now.

Why are they taking away our right to defend ourselves? Because we need to defend ourselves from them. The right to keep and bear arms was meant to keep our government at our mercy, not as a priviledge to be doled out upon a favored few, and to keep us from being at our government's mercy.

I think you misunderstood me. None of them hold Breshnev, or Kruschev in high esteem. They do promote many of the ideals of that system. No one of them says that we should convert to an iron clad soviet style dictatorship. Taken as a whole though the party resembles the party. They want to raise your taxes to provide for those that can't, but more often, those that wont provide for themselves. They want us all to be on an equal financial footing. Sounds pretty good until you realize that they don't mean a wealthy footing, just the same footing. That is unmaintainable. 98% of us would live at or below poverty if those social programs were implemented.

An example is Masachusetts' big dig. Corruption drove the price up to nearly 8 times the original estimate. The tunnel project is finished. It's now nearly unusable. It's killed one person already and seriously affected Boston's inflow and outflow of traffic/business/tourism. Massachusetts is basically a one party system (just like the USSR was). Massachusetts turnpike authority (the same group who oversaw the fiasco) is now planning on jacking up tolls on a highway that was supposed to be toll free over 20 years ago to help pay for repairs to it's shiny new tunnels. Those tolls are still in place to pay for political favor jobs and other in state pork projects. You have an unchecked democratic party here that's just about reached it's breaking point now. This last bit is really pushing it towards the edge. Not enough republicans/independents/others to reign in the democratic party. Does any of this sound like Russias problems just before the USSR broke apart? Rampant unchecked corruption and political despotism.

Exactly? That's the funniest thing I've ever heard. You need to be absolutely stupid to think what I said was true.
Yes, America is not truly capitalist, but it's one of the closest you'll find in the world.
"Mercantilism is the economic theory holding that the prosperity of a nation depends upon its supply of capital, and that the global volume of trade is "unchangeable."
"Capitalism is an economic system in which the means of production are mostly privately owned, and capital is invested in the production, distribution and other trade of goods and services, for profit."
Our economic system took a lot from Adam Smith's "Wealth of Nations" which explicitly was against mercantilism....

Funny that many of the neo-cons happen to be rich ex-corporate exectuvies, which last time I checked, corporate exectutives were pro-capitalism. Now, if you want to talk about anti-capitalism, lets start talking about people who favor a "Communist-Anarchist" government.
And funny that most professors are extreme liberals and brainwash most of their students. Most high school teachers are liberals too, and make attempts to show the liberal side of history without pushing a political agenda.

Future income is related to your environment Willie. You learn a lot about work ethic, how money works, and all the other economics as a child growing up. A welfare kid usually doesn't get thos lessons so the few that do make it from those conditions are the exception. They don't have that learning about employment. They see that a check comes in the mail monthly and that's how the money is earned. The multi generational welfare families are in that situation. They have no idea how to get and hold a job. They don't understand working your way up for more money. They have no idea that in two years you can probably double what your welfare income is with a job because they don't live like most of us do. They learn to live month to month and don't think much further ahead than that financially. They don't truly understand the concept of saving and money management. We should really set up some programs that teach these ideas to people in multigenerational welfare families instead of the foolish programs like making the most of a block of cheese.

The richer are getting richer, rightly so, it's their money, they have every right to get it with the least amount of taxes as possible.
Seeing as I am one of those "rich white kids", I would just like to say that I have never been bailed out of any problems, and any good parent wouldn't bail out a child from problems, they would make them learn.
Its called hard work. I bust my *** every single day, its because I have pride in the work I do.

By not allowing a "criminal" to have an attorney, you're going against the very basis of the American judicial system - innocent until proven guilty.

Funny that from 1787 to 1965ish, criminals didn't have the right to an attorney.
Innocent until proven guilty has nothing to do with the right to an attorney. Not to mention, that decision was unconstitutional, as it conflicted directly with the tenth ammendment.

Without the right to an attorney, the police could just arrest any uneducated person and charge him with a crime, and unless he had the money to hire a lawyer, he'd have to defend himself. And that's no easy task.
Now, of course, there's some nuances that I find ridiculous, like that thing with that child molestor down in Florida I think. The right to an attorney doesn't have anything to do with the right to a fair trial, a trial by a jury, and the due process of the law. If someone is arrested without cause, they will sue. There's no one that reads the law books more than a criminal trying to get out of responsibility for a crime.
There's a good example of why there shouldn't be a right to an attorney.

Instead of paying the 100 a week, you'll pay 200 a week more in taxes to pay for your health insurunce, hospitals will be so crowded that it takes months for minor surgery. Yet America hasn't been targeted by terrorists for the longest point since Islam declared war on America in 1979.
Thats weird, because when I see TV ads, they have text in them. The same goes for billboards. Why does everything have text on it if 50% of Americans can't read?
The war on hunger you were refering to is in the USA, it has been won. Children are given free food at schools, once they're out of school, it's their own responsibility.
The USA is because it counts as one market with 300 million people. Compare that to Europe as a whole, and you'll find it is about the same.

Kingmob didn't say that 50% of Americans can't read. He just said that 50% of Americans didnt read a book in the last year, which I wouldnt be suprised about. However, he takes that as meaning those people CAN'T read.

Just because you can read something, doesn't mean that you comprehend it.

Not being able to read a philosophy book and understand it does not make you illiterate.

No, it doesn't. It means you can't comprehend a PHILOSOPHY book. I could easily read a philosophy book, but that doesn't mean I'll understand it, and I'm not illiterate nor a mental midget.
And you STILL have failed to prove that the majority of Americans are illiterate. Yes, of course, the majority of Americans are DUMB, but that doesn't make them illiterate.

Schools used to teach you to think. Not so antmore. They give you the fastest easiest ticket out the door possible. You can learn a lot of the basic facts, but so what if no one's ever taught you to actually process information. You're not taught to ask "why?" anymore. You're expected to repeat the facts back like a parrot and move on to the next subject. Kinda like the grinder scene in "The Wall" really.
