Hey Cubs fans and fanatics.
I have a challenge for you.
For the last two weeks I have done nothing but try to start a Chicago Cubs Dynasty from 1969 onward.
My first time out I made it to game 6 of the World Series and lost it all. :-(
And subsequent tries provided me with heartbreak after perpetual heartbreak.
I kept the lineup together, I traded for more veterans, I even gutted the team once but never have I won the 1969 World Series and still made a hefty profit.
Sure the rookie and greedy BBM rookie might trade away ALL his prospects and deadweight for some superstars but real baseball doesn't work like that and shouldn't.
So my current challenge is:
Play those 1969 Cubs, make at least 20 million over the year and win the Championship.
Please provide proof if you do.
By the way although I have never won with that team I have won with the 1970 Cubs many times and that was just from my own farm system pitching peaking all at once and only signing two free agent hitters.
But 1970 is a bridesmaid compared to the previous year.
Calling all Cubs Fans!!
Do not fail.
Win it all for the Sultan and for Harry Caray.

Can I try even if I'm not a serious, die-hard Cubs fan? ;) Also, what level do you play at (Fan, Mogul, in between)?

Ouch.
That sounds very tough....
I think the most I ever made with '69 was 2 million.

do you have to make 20 million in actual profit or can it be an increase in cash to 28.4 from 8.4 mil???

I did it... It took 5 tries but i did it. Ill post the pics in a few minutes. Boy tho... I have NO minor league system and still have a TON of players i had to resign and I traded away a ton of players but i did it. 1969 Cubs Win in 5 games!!! season record is 101-61. BTW what year did they make it 162??? was it in 61 or 60???
Oh... oops i probably should have read the whole thing where it says dont trade away all the prospects. N/M then i am aparently a novice :p

hehe
I was gonna say. The challenge should probaly be for the most pennants over a 5 year period or something.

Wow I guess I drummed up some interest here. Cool.
Try the challenge in mogul mode,
Try to make 20 million or more in profit that year (meaning, it will be hard to trade for superstars and still stay in the black.
And if you win with Ernie Banks on the team that is a bonus. lol. Not that he isn't great it's just that he is a defensive liability in '69 and can't run so good either.
I also like Ohms idea, most pennants in five years, that way you have to build for the immediate future. Showing a profit over each of the five years is gonna be tough.
Go Cubs.

I just finished running a five year game with the '69 Cubs.
Only ended up winning one pennant this time around.
But I did learn a couple of things.
It took a while for the Farmies to get going but do those Cubs have some talent!
There were a couple of speedy outfielders in the system with Ichiro type numbers, the pitching was great as well (Burris, Todd, Lemonds)
The Astros dominated my Cubs and everyone else for a couple of years.
After the five year fun I did have 120 million in the bank.
Now I will start over and forget about the heartbreak I had this time..lol
I am equipping all infielders with bionics so they don't all break their wrists and fibula this time around.
I will execute any player that wants to leave.
I will forget about my dream of Rollie Fingers winning the Cy Young and MVP for me.
I will win, ****** I will win!!!
Go Cubs.

My latest Cubs Dynasty is quite impressive.
I won the 1974 World Series.
My average record (from 69 to 75) thus far is 101-60.
I love my "super" team.
I got Lopes, Fisk, Yount, Hernandez, Cedeno, Bell, Dawson, Oliver, etc. etc.
I got rid of Garvey because he wanted a sun tan.
My best record thus far is 118-44.
I have 51 million in the bank right now and the Cubs fans love this team.
Will the Cubbies keep winning??
I need to beat those pesky Orioles, they are starting to irritate me so.
Wish me luck.

p.s. half of my all star relievers hardly played a season in real life. In my game they are gods and 4 of them could be closers.
Coming up in the ranks of AAA are Murphy, Quisenberry, McCatty, Leonard, Lemon, Sutcliffe, Hernandez (Willie) and a bunch of others.
Let's go Cubs!!

2003, and I think it was Steve Bartman. Although after seeing ESPN Classic's Top 5 Reasons You Can't Blame Steve Bartman, I dont think it was his fault really. but I wouldnt mind trying to do that season.
