I'm beginning to think that the pitches a pitcher throws has little effect on the groundball/flyball ratio. I mean, look at Webb's pitches compared to his G/F ratio. Real life, he's like 2.5/3 to 1.
Now, Dontrelle's pitches...the splitter is a bad pitch compared to his other pitches, yet it and the slider are giving a g/f ratio almost as high as Webb's...

Brandon Webb's G/F ratio has been declining every season for the last three seasons:
2003: 3.44
2004: 3.55
2005: 4.34
2006: 3.85
so, theoretically he's turned his G/F ratio around...

Willis's number appears to have simply stabilised at just over 1.5:1.
2003: 1.12
2004: 1.28
2005: 1.40
2006: 1.66

The only decline I see is 2005 to 2006..
I'm just not sure how someone with all sinking pitches ends up with a 1.50 G/F ratio.
It's just something I noticed, although I can't comment on his severity or if/how it should be adjusted/

yea, I had Webb's number's backwards when I posted that, so that's all messed up.
I don't really know either. I'll start looking at it some more when I get a chance to.
On the same end, I get odd conflictions with historical players. Huge power rating, but low speed..think of Sandy Koufax with an 84 mph fastball.
The G/F needs to be much stronger than it is in BM.

I've found a bug in this code. Long story short: I had been using GB% data but treating it as GO/AO data leading to some problems (this also explains some of the problems with infielders not getting the right number of assists).
Anyway, I'm changing the Skills page to show GB% (percent of ALL balls in play that are grounders), and tweaking how it affects each batted ball.

awsome.
showing it as GB% is a great choice too, I think. the ratio thing isn't as accessable as a percentage number, in my opinion.
Should be interesting to see the fielding effects as well.

Yeah! Can't wait for 9.44 to be posted so I can test the fielding and compare it to 9.32 (I think that is the version I tested before). :)

So, there's gonna be no unofficial patches between 9.43 and 9.44?

um... he didn't say that.
even so, does there have to be? the "official" 9.44 can be unofficial for a few days before it's pushed to everyone with auto-update.

um... he didn't say that.
Well, if this was fixed in 9.44, that would logically mean 9.44 is the next patch.
even so, does there have to be? the "official" 9.44 can be unofficial for a few days before it's pushed to everyone with auto-update.
There doesn't have to be, but it was my understanding that unofficial patches would now be lettered, and the official patches would push up 1 number. I believe that's what Clay posted somewhere.
I don't care one way or the other, I was just wondering.

no, I know. It's just that Clay doesn't have to push a patch to the auto-update system (which really makes it official) until a few of us try it by getting it straight off the boards here. That way, If there is some sort of problem that crops up then it could be changed to "unofficial" without hurting everyone out there.
edit: ^ that too.
