View Full Version : Why not go for the double play instead of preventing a walk-off win? ;-) [Fixed 9.44]

BOTTOM OF THE TENTH
Eric Walker singled to left. <--1>
Eric Walker went for an extra base and reached second. <-2->
Jared Catlett singled up the middle. <3-1>
Gaétan Huene grounded back to the pitcher for a double play (1-6-3). <--->

A playoff game, won 3:2 by the home team...nice walk-off victory.
One question remains:
Why does the pitcher go for the double play (and how is it completed) with a runner on third going for the winning run? In my opinion something like this would not happen.
Not a big deal, but something that is worth looking into I guess.

The game was simulated with F12 (Sim One Day), Version is 9.43 (last official patch).

Well, if you wanted to rationalize it in your mind just for realism's sake, you could say that the pitcher checked the runner at third and saw to his satisfaction that he wasn't going home and so (perhaps not so wisely) decided to get two, whereupon the runner on third saw some sort of opening during a late stage of the DP and (perhaps not so wisely, either) went bolting for the plate. The 1B, a little stunned by this, threw home, but the runner just got in under the tag. It'd always be referred to by the press and fans as "head's-up baserunning" by the guy on third and "a terrible decision" on the pitcher's part or a "boneheaded hesitancy" on the 1B's part. Controversy, etc.

The pitcher probably was at fault...mebbe he meant to deal a tater, but was using the X brand of resin, hence the slip...after all, these guys are only human...oops, they're not, are they...?:)

even better than it being a known issue, it's now a Fixed Issue (http://forum.sportsmogul.com/showthread.php?t=117464)

Do be cautious with that patch though. be advised that it is unofficial (meaning it's a beta version).
