Boston Red Sox 2005

Red Sox Roster

Arroyo, Bronson (SP) - Our fifth starter, Bronson is solid all-around. In his first season starting thirty-plus games last year, he yielded a 10-9 record with a 4.03 ERA. The Red Sox hope that competition between Wade Miller and Bronson will make both men better.

Bellhorn, Mark (2B) - A hero in the ALCS, Bellhorn is good at getting on base. Despite a high strikeout total of 177, Bellhorn's on-base percentage was .373. Bellhorn's defense is a bit lackluster, but he'll do fine.

Burkett, John (RP) - A long reliever, Burkett once was a fine starter for the Sox. Now fourty, Burkett will be taking his career 4.31 ERA into the bullpen for mop-up work. John also has the capability to fill a spot in the rotation during an injury.

Clement, Matt (SP) - A new addition to the Sox, Clement has everyone hopeful he can finally deliver on his talent. Known as one of the three great pitching prospects out of Chicago, Clement has yet to emerge as an ace with a career 69-75 record. At thirty, it may be now or never for Matt.

Damon, Johnny (CF) - One of the best, if not the best, lead-off men in baseball. Johnny's mix of power and average would make any lineup become a well-oiled RBI machine. Although Johnny's arm is certainly lacking, his range and fielding make up for it.

Daubach, Brian (1B) - One of the favorites in Boston, Daubach has always been a solid player for the Sox. Although Brian will be on the bench to start the season, he has the ability to hit a few out of the park for you. Don't count on Brian to do much in the field anymore though. Then again, he never could.

Embree, Alan (RP) - A key member of the Sox bullpen in 2004, Embree returns as the lefty setup man. Embree's playoff performence outshined his regular season 4.13 ERA. Hopefully Embree can play like he did against the Yankees in the ALCS all season.

Foulke, Keith (RP) - The second most valuable player last year in the postseason behind David Ortiz, Keith Foulke is the Red Sox closer yet again. Entering a contract year, Foulke will look to repeat his thirty-two save season. I'm sure the fans wouldn't mind it either.

Mantei, Matt (RP) - A bit of an enigma signing, Mantei fell apart in 2004 for the Diamondbacks. Matt went on the DL after ten-and-a-third innings, in which he gave up fourteen earned runs. Mantei hopes to return to his sub-three ERA self as shown in 2003.

Millar, Kevin (1B) - The locker room would be a whole different place if it weren't for Millar. The portly first baseman will look to improve upon his .297 average in 2004, but the Sox fans would like more for him to improve his defense.
