The Anaheim Angels are quietly putting together a decent season in this 2001 baseball season and if they could add an ace to their staff they would be set. Ismael Valdes, Jarrod Washburn, Ramon Ortiz, and Schoeneweis are all pitching pretty well ..... Matt Wise is looking half decent but needs to cut down on giving up the long ball .... however the plus with him is he racks up the K's ..... soooo give Wise and the other younger pitchers another year plus add a healthy Mo Vaughn into the situation and Anaheim should be a top contender next year.
Percival is having a rough second half but is more than a capable closer and is having a tremendous year overall with only two blown saves.
Uhhmmm ... the Angels could really use a true leadoff hitter ...... they need some more speed in their lineup but hey you can't have everything ..... and ..... if it wasn't for the crazy season the M's are having they would most likely be in contention for their division this year .....
What the heck is wrong with Tim Salmon this year though ??? I believe this could be the worst year of his career though. One thing I noticed in his numbers is that he is hitting extremely well when at DH. With his injuries that he has had the last few years why haven't they considered moving him to the DH spot for the rest of this year or permanently ??? He is hitting .303 in the DH spot with 3 HR's and 7 RBI's ..... George Bell would have extended his career and put up better numbers if he would have cooperated and played DH when he was asked to .... hmmm well I just checked Salmon's post All-Star break numbers and he is hitting .272 so maybe he is getting his stroke back ....

Summation ..... quietly the Angels are having a good season and may sneak up into the wild card spot ..... but watch out for them in the future ....
