View Full Version : BUG: 9.43 Hit and Run sends runner home (Manager Mode) [Fixed 9.44B]

Situation: Shane Victorino up, Perez on first and Thompson on third, 0 out, down by 2 runs, bottom of 9th
Action: I call for a hit and run (to try to stay out of double play and get runner on first in scoring position)
Result: Batter strikes out, runner on third tries to steal home, runner on first steals second.
Bug: Runner on third should not be trying to steal home
I have not tried to reproduce this yet.

I've seen the same problem though. Happens every time (that the batter misses the pitch), as far as I know.

The problem is that the strategy currently affects all runners. It needs to be adjusted so that it only affects those with an empty base ahead of them.

Yeah, that's what I was pointing out, I thought.
I'm of the opinion that a hit and run is only called when there is a runner on first, or first and third. Other situations I don't think are really hit and run situations (they could be run and hit), but I know some disagree.
And another thing, just because there was a strikeout doesn't mean there HAS to be a steal attempt. It could be assumed that sign MIGHT be taken off with two strikes.

I always play manager mode, and I choose hit and run often with runners and 1st and 3rd. It seems that neither runner holds when the batter strikes out (I may have seen 1 or 2 times where the runner on 3rd holds but I don't remember for certain). Typically if the batter doesn't swing, the runner on 3rd holds while the other runner steals (and sometimes both or neither runners hold). I've never thought of this as a bug (just an added risk of doing hit in run with runners at the corners), but perhaps there should be an option for "hit and run w/ 1B runner" vs. "hit and run all runners".

In my original example, the batter did strike out swinging.
I believe it is a bug, as there is no reason fro the runner to be coming home before contact is made.

While we're on this subject, it seems like a hole never opens up on a hit & run. For example, one of the middle infielders has to cover second, yet if the ball is hit to either shortstop or second base, it is always fielded cleanly. It can't be all bad luck.

I've never had a batter hit the ball where the hole should have been, which I always found strange. But I digress...
Seen the same bug on hit and run with runners on 1st & 3rd. Agree the runner on third should hold. I like the idea of having the option of hit and run for runner on first only, or for all runners. Makes a lot of sense. Also agree that rarely do hitters hit one in area vacated by infielders, but with these graphics it's hard to tell.

I've fixed it so the runner doesn't break from 3rd on a Hit & Run. I've also found the problem with the 2B/SS not covering if the ball is put in play (and thus not leaving a "hole").
