View Full Version : Very strange problem with saving retired players (9.44C) [Fixed 9.44D]

I can't seem to duplicate this problem consistently...but...I'll post it anyway.

This is with the setting set to save all retired players.

Screenshot1 - April 3rd, one guy retires.
Screenshot2 - Next day, other guys retire, and all previous retired players (except the 3 from my team I released before simming at all) are gone and turn to ---
Screenshot3- Same thing happens as screenshot 2.

etc.

Here's the .mog file that it's occuring in.

I can't consistently recreate it. I noticed it while simming one day at a time in my new Oakland game, and it was bugigng me, so I ran some tests using a new game, and it worked fine...then I made a new Oakland game and it worked fine in one quick test run...then I noticed it in the new Oakland file as well...really really weird.

NOTE: IT does happen every time with the ./mog file attached below.

yea, i've seen this too. I think that it has to do with some players being determined to be "HOF players". Those guys are saved in the transaction logs and whatnot, while everyone else isn't.

This is with it set to save all retired players though.

I know, but it still uses the same criteria for HOF candidates.

I know, but it's not saving anyone (except the 3 guys I released that retired prior to any simming)....

Ok, just did some tests reverting back to prior patches (with the same .mog file posted above). This happens in 9.44B, but not 9.44A. So it was introduced in 9.44B.

It's really bugging (pardon the pun) me that I can't seem to reproduce this. I had moved my lineup and pitching rotation around and stuff and made a trade, and that was all I did prior to seeing this the 2nd time. The first time, all I did was edit my lineup and rotation and sign one free agent..

it happens in 9.43 as well, and it did happen in .44A. it just looked different is all. the -- thing is new, is what it is.

Well, with prior patches, with it set to save all retired players, all the players were saved and showed up fine in Transactions. Just with 9.44B is it not saving the players when it is set to save allr etired players.

oh, it's still saving them, it's just that their name is disappearing when the game markes them as active=false, or something.
It did do the same thing in 9.43, but the names would simply disappear out of the transactions log.

It's not saving them though. They don't appear in Sortable Stats under Retired Players.

I tried that .mog file on 9.44A, and it worked fine. 9.44B started doing what I posted above.

oh, that's different... I haven't noticed that yet, but since it's the middle of my work week I haven't been able to get any quality playing time in.

Hm..in a possibly related bug...

(again, i can't easily make it happen. it's pretty random..)

After saving a game and reloading it, retired players that retired after a certain date (April 21st in my one game) are removed.

Perhaps Clay could look at the code for this and find the problem...

Until then, I'll settle with it only saving HOF players...and there being no HOF inductions...:p

It seems like the issue this thread was originally about also exists when it saves All HOF Players only.

I've also noticed this running version 9.44C. My experience with this was that if you tried to see the scouting report of the retired player on the DAY OF his retirement it took longer than usual to pop up, about a 10 second delay rather than the normal instant pop up. Then as HoustonGM noted, once you sim/play past the day of the player's retirement, he disappears altogether from the transactions/sortable stats/etc. My game was set to saving all Major League players as well.

I've seen this also, but since this is the first time I've played with "save all players" I didn't know it was normal or not (previously I always played with save HOF only).

Also, 9.44B actually CHANGED the setting for my existing game from HOF to ALL players, which was weird as ****...

Same PROBLEM as noted but did it only on the first day of the season , the club is stated but then no info.

It would be the first time that i've seen a patch actually change a setting in options, which since the options are obviously saved in the .mog file somewhere, this could be an extremely bad situation.

Yes, that happens too.

When i reverted to 9.44B to test this bug, it did change the setting from All MLB Players to HOF players. That was the only setting that changed.

I almost never go into options (League editor often, options almost never), and I always have it set to save HOF players only. I loaded up 44B, started my league wide cleanup (which includes retiring deadwood) and I suddenly realized that *everyone* with a single game played was being saved.

Is it possible that I accidently changed it? i don't think so, but'd be pretty arrogant to say it was impossible, but I don't think so, and this is hardly my first update. So take it as you will. For now it's something to be ignored until we get someone else complaining about the same thing, and then we'll know if I'm going insane or not...

Read my post above. It's the opposite of what you had, but I'm sure that what happened to me could certainly have happened to you, just reversed. :p

Upon installing 9.44C and starting the game the "Save Retired Players" option was set to nothing. That is, the box was just empty, as though an empty box were a third option. Curious, I left it on this setting and, lo and behold, I'd get "--" under retired player name. Upon reload the retired player listing would be clear.

So, I set the option to what I've always used, save "Major League Players". It's still not saving them properly, though. Whenever I go to check retired players all I get is "--" under player names. See image below.
