I have noticed that some days my players will be rated higher than other days, then go back down to their original rating...what is the reason for this?? Has anyone turned a scrub into a star?

It's draft prediciability. You can turn it up or down in the league editor. (lowering the value makes players less predictable, and more apt to jumps and slides in ratings). Same goes for Hall of Fame Careers. Except HOF Careers deals with people during their peak years. The higher percentage for HOF Careers, the less players randomly drop off during their peak.

that doesn't sound like draft predictability. Sounds to me like you've got lousy scouting.
Draft predictability and HOF carreers affects year-over-year ratings changes, not day-by-day changes.

I don't know, I had Stephen Drew at a 79/9?, so I put him in the lineup against RHP, and two weeks later he was 56/9?. My scouting was +/- 3 (I was in the top 6 in all spending categories) and everything else set at default.

...that's happened long before draft predictability and HOF carreers came about though. There's always some uncertainty in rookie ratings, there has to be. otherwise, what's the point?

Sure, but 20 points in 2 weeks seems a bit drastic. And I misread the original post, that does sound like scouting.

Well, "draft predictiability" and "Hof careers" effects were always existant, but just now we have the ability to adjust how drastic their effects are.
It could be scouting though.
