Submarine is missing in the Pitching Style area of the Player Editor dialog. I didn't know if it was just called "underhand", but I figure there's a difference.

In my rosters, I put all the submarine guys as "underhand" or "sidearm."
Chad Bradford's got to be underhand. :p

I would assume submarine = underhand, but do not agree with that IRL, but might work fine for the game. I remember a guy that pitched for the Cardinals for part of a season (but not the name) that was supposed to have a 'true submarine' pitching style, and it was almost exactly as a fast-pitch softball pitcher throws. Their were underhand pitchers in the early days that I doubt are what we call submarine pitchers today. Bradford, Tekulve, Quisenberry are what more modern-day submariners are (and much different than sidearmers) and in game terms, I'd guess underhand would work fine for submarine. I don't remember if Clay ever defined it anywhere or not.

I'm treating "Submarine" and "Underhand" as the same thing. Bill James uses "Submarine" in his Pitcher Codes, and he doesn't have an entry for Underhand. So maybe I should just change the name.

P.S. The "Pitcher Code" article is at the end of the Neyer/James Guide to Pitchers. It's the same article that has a photo of Josh Becket and where James talks about how Beckett "did" become a star.

I assume that pre-2006 Red Cross Sox "star" not the "Eric Milton" HR impersonator of today ;)

Does the pitching style actually affect anything, or is it just cosmetic?

Cosmetic.

Well, it's not really even cosmetic...the only pitching animation is overhand. ;)

Verbal cosmetics maybe real cosmetics for 2008 (If Clay can a sponsporship deal with L'Oreal°)
