View Full Version : Clarification On Checking lineup Boxes

Did I accidentally discover?
I went into commish mode and checked Pete Rose in the 1974 Reds lineup as the lead-off hitter. It just bugged me that Rose was being placed 5th in the lineup. Then I went back into regular mode. It seemed that Rose stayed put at the leadoff position.
But will Rose get his days off, or will he perpetually start every baseball game from here til eternity? When injured, will he remain on the 25 man roster, or will the AI send him down? I'll run some experiments of my own, but just wanted as much feedback on the box check as possible.
I'm thinking I can turn over teams to the AI while helping guide them by keeping Rose in the leadoff (purely personal preference), or keeping the AI from using a starting pitching with an 8.00 ERA by checkmarking that pitcher into a middle relief role. Keep in mind I'm not concerned with human controlled teams-- but want to help the AI teams get a bit smarter.
Thoughts?

I never tried that. let us know what happens.
FYI: moved to Baseball Mogul: General Discussions. Suggestions and AI are more for "please add to/change the game" sorts of topics.
thanks.

I've done this with my current dynasty. Seems to work fine in that if there's an injury, it will just sub in somebody, but return to the player later. You kind of have to keep an eye out in case one of your checked-in players really starts to stink out the joint.

Thanks for the feedback O.
Well, fellas. I was curious about two things. Would days off be given to a checkmarked player on an AI team? Secondly, would that player be left on the ML roster if he suffered a large injury?
The first test seems to imply No to the first an and Yes to the 2nd.
I ran Pete Rose a couple of times checkmarked to his leadoff position for an entire year. He played and started all 162 games. No other Red did that. The play-time took its toll as Rose hit .270-- an off-year for Charlie Hustle.
Then I checkmarked the entire Reds team. I wanted to see what would happen with injuries. I got into July when the game froze. I imagine the AI needed players to fill out a lineup and was prohibited by the checkmarks from dipping into the minors for replacements.
Still, this may be a shortcut for me. I like being in God Mode, where each team gets the benefit of a human brain (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) helping to bench 7.55 ERAs and .187 hitters. The only thing I miss are the AI trades. Actually, I've been impressed with what I've seen on the AI. Given the team's Scouting score, if you consider each AI trade to another AI controlled team, one can at least see a logic behind it. The only problem is when the AI trades in July a 75 pitcher for a 75 hitter. The pitcher has gone 45 innings with a 1.22 ERA and is a key member of the bullpen. Not able to account for statistics, that pitcher gets traded for an outfielder with 200 ABs and a .189 BA with 2 HR.
So, I think check marking AI players into their places can be a happy medium-- oops...... Hmmm. Does the checkmark prohibit the AI from trading that player? That could be useful AND a detriment.
Being in God View the checkmarks should be a plus. You simply do as they do online. Check every team after 10 games, or 15.
By the way, my brother in Maine and I in Colorado are wanting to start an on-line league of our own. Can we do that? If so, how?
Best,

Yes you can Knocky but personally I would advise against it for 2 reasons:
1) firstly BMO & BM are 2 completely different animals & I would suggest you learn about BMO (ie play in a PRIVATE league for 2/3 months to see the differences & what you like/dont like)
2) There are alot of leagues that get created (especially at the moment) but like amoebas there life span seem to be limited & a league is dependent on those who run it & play (& mark my words it takes time & effort to handle 30 humans all trying to win & take advantage of other players & the commish) plus there is a financial investment
Really get you & you bro to join a league together (the speeds vary from a 10 day/sim to a speedy 60/sim ) & see what suits your aims /style & if it is WORTH IT TO CREATE YOUR OWN LEAGUE
Otherwise if you are determined to set it up go to the BMO forum & read up how to set up a league & obtain a forum

He's not talking about BMO FRS. he's talking about running a league with BBM.
Doing so is extremely easy knockahoma715. Start a new game of mogul, then open up the League Editor. There is a password field in there that you simply need to fill out for yourself. Then, you save the game and send it to your brother. he opens the save game, picks a team that he wants to play, and sets a password for himself. all you need to do then, is agree on a time that the games will actually be simulated, and you can both pass the saved game between each other.

Thanks Frenchie, Ohms.
Ohms, that sounds great. I thought that might be possible; I just had a "duh" moment. You know, like, "b-b-b-but, how can my brother see my computer screen unless we somehow network the two computers by breaking a government code and covertly linking up to a military satellite? He owns BBM 05 I think, so I'll have to get him to upgrade, eh?
Last night we did check out the online leagues.

I looked around a bit last night, but saw no directions. Now, if we go that way, can we create an exlusive world where only he and I are allowed to play? And could you drop a link to explicit directions on how to create such a league?
Best to all,
Knocky.
P.S. Hey, let's say, hypothetically, that someone accidentally broke into a government computer running its satellite systems to play BBM before he knew he could just e-mail the League to his brother. What's the maximum penalty for tha?

no... not really. And, that's not the intent of bbmo anyway.
More BBMO information is available here: http://www.sportsmogul.com/baseballonline/index.htm

heh
alot. you'll end up in Levenworth...
;)
but, there's really no need for that sort of thing anymore. There's this great new invention that everyone's talking about, called the Internet. You should look it up, it's pretty cool.

I'll note that Rose during that period played just about every day, and thrived.
[Checking] His health rating in 1974 was 93, and he played 160 games.
