View Full Version : Players are not taken from free agency even when they should be

If a player is of a certain age I've noticed they are left to retire at free agency. For example I created a player, a similar player type I've always used since BM2000, one who has a very late peak and high longevity. so he is still 84/84 with a good health rating at the age of 42, but no one picks him up and he retires. I saw several teams with inferior right fielders AND the cash to pick him up that were making profit that year. why was he left to retire?
This also makes it easier for human players because we can pick up cheap players that the computers ignore.

This retirement question has been brought up before here is the link:

but I do see the feasibility for the AI NOT to pick him up - age factor - but also agree to your logic.
The thing is how many in BM 40+ players are there ? Also what was your guys health ?
In the link the problem seems to be linked in to injury & demotion, which is feasible but in .43 there is an overkill of retirements due to "nagging" injuries which definately should have been sorted (has it ?)

actually, the problem in this particular case almost certainly has to do with editing the player. It seems like the AI doesn't always see players correctly after they've been edited for some reason.
I think that HGM wass talking about this not too long ago.

This is possible. I was talking about the auto-sort though...this could be related.

Ah yea, that's right. I'm all but certain that it is related though. If the AI can't see the proper values after editing for one sub-system, it's extremely likely that it wouldn't be able to see the value in any other sub-system either.

It has to do with editing players I think. I edited a draft pick (since you can't make new ones) and turned him into a great player, and even at 83/99 at age 25, he was not picked up until May.
i'm running multiple seasons rgiht now. i think as the giants, i will take this created player on Apr 1 but that is somewhat cheating
