Basball Mogul Needs Depth Charts

Depth Charts would be a great improvement for Baseball Mogul. Perhaps you, like I, have a great power hitting first baseman that is injury prone (think Mark McGwire). Suppose he gets hurt and the first baseman on your bench isn't as good as your starting second baseman who can also play first base but you have another good second baseman on the bench although this one cannot play first.

1. It would be good to be able to create a depth chart for each position in the event of injury to your primary players. This would give us more control over our team instead of trusting it to the computer. Instead, if we then had the option to create contingency lineups for each possibility to that could arise from the depth charts we would have even greater control of our team and be able to finetune our club - as much as we want. We could choose the level of input or choose not to use depth charts at all and allow the computer to make the lineup changes for us. But I like depth charts so that I can have full control over the lineups.

2. It would be good to have more Major League Baseball Roster Rules (http://rangers.siegler.net/roster/rosterrules.html) implemented into the game.

It seems like a lot of the suggestions on these threads won't get implemented, because a certain unnamed competitor already uses these features.

By the same token, the certain unnamed competitor's message boards often have suggestions that would directly rip off Baseball Mogul.

So I'm thinking that a lot of these ideas aren't ignored because the creators don't want them, but because they can't have 'em...

The notion that Baseball Mogul can't have these features because a competitor has them is just silly. If it's true, it's insanity.

These roster ideas don't come from Baseball Mogul's competitors, the depth chart idea doesn't even come from professional baseball. The depth chart idea comes from common sense. It's no wonder few people have it - it's been bloody copyrighted!!!

It's just a theory, but it would make sense as to why some suggestions get quick responses from the gurus, while others get completely ignored

It would be good to have someone from Sports Mogul comment on Depth Charts.

How about we just start with having lefty/righty breakdowns? That would be nice -- it's an enormous part of baseball, so it's shocking that it's not implemented.

I typed up a reasoned reply to why depth charts would be easier to implement than right/left splits and why right/left splits would not currently work in the game however, before i was able to post it my browser crashed and so I will direct you to another thread where right/left splits were discussed (Clay Dreslough joined in).

Read the thread Clay Dreslough started entitled Lefty/Righty Stats (http://forum.sportsmogul.com/showthread.php3?s=&threadid=2288&highlight=lefty%2Frighty).

I just voted for depth charts above, and I do believe they would be less effort than lefty-righty splits.

As for "copyright issues", it is entirely impossible to copyright an idea. If it were, I'd be suing every person over the last five years that released a "GM-style" baseball simulation.

Our primary limitation to adding new features is development and testing resources. It is also partly shaped by my style as a game designer -- I would rather make a stable game with an intuitive user interface, a great sim engine and challenging AI than one with the only goal being a long feature list.
