View Full Version : Can no longer cut-and-paste to these forums

For my longer posts, I usually compose them in Word, then paste them in the forums...with the advent of Internet Explorer 7, I can but cut and/or copy- to get the text into the post, I've got to resort to attaching, since my old reliable toolbar has been wiped out and replaced by an icon "tools", which doesn't work for me..
Has anyone else had this problem since upgrading their Windows (Home)XP with IE7? I should think that the solution would be to uninstall IE7, which, I suspect, is mainly bells & whistles, anyway, but I will hang on until I've heard from fellow-sufferers.
I've tried to ask the parent Co, but, being Microsoft, of course, their IE7 "help" site doesn't respond.

control-v is the standard PC shortcut for paste, will that work?

You don't really have a choice on using Internet Explorer 7 (aside from complete alternatives such as Firefox or Opera). Microsoft has pulled all previous versions completely, from what I can tell. Additionally, windows update will try to update your browser as soon as you will allow it to.
Anyway, Control-v does work, as SirKodiak mentioned. You can also use the menu commands in the Edit menu. If you don't have a menu bar, right click on the menu and select it from the pop-up list.

Thank you Ohms, and SirKodiak ...I'll try your suggestions...aha, Ohms clicking on "menu bar" did it - I've got my toolbar back! I'll hoist one to you and SirK, tonight!

I feel all warm and fuzzy inside...
:D
no, seriously; you're welcome guys. I take some of this stuff for granted myself. I'm one of those guys who rarely reads manuals or calls tech support; 99 times out of 100 I can figure out what's what with software. Lord help the poor sap on the other end of the line when I finally do call tech support for something. Tech support is a job I've done myself in the past (2 years with Quantex computers (http://www.computerhope.com/comp/quantex.htm)), and it sucks in general. While the un-knowledgeable callers can make you laugh sometimes (but mostly made us feel good that we helped), the knowledgeable callers were often the most troublesome. You know the expression, "Doctor, heal thyself"? There's a good reason for that expression...

I was able to revert from IE7 to IE6 after I briefly upgraded and found it very uncomfortable. :p

Really? I never actually checked, since I'm a FF user. How did you do it? Other's here may be interested to know.
My understanding from reading reviews was that Microsoft has pulled everything from IE6.

It's still there. It's sort of "hidden" though. If you go to the Download page for IE7, you'll see "Internet Explorer 6 downloads and updates" in "Related Links."
If I remember correctly though, after uninstalling IE7, I didn't even have to reinstall IE6, although I had already redownloaded it. It just...worked. :p

Windows Update tried to force IE7 on me a couple weeks ago by starting an update without telling me first what was in the update. Shame on you Microsoft just for that, let alone the suckiness of your products. I was keeping an eye out for that though since in my line of work I've had a couple people tell me to stay well away from IE7. As soon as I saw "installing Internet Explorer 7" pop up on the screen I squashed it.
I mostly use Firefox anyway.

^It's not on anymore. Since then I've noticed the little icon pop up on the system tray that indicates "an update is available" twice. But it still won't just come out and specify exactly what is in the update unless you dig around some. I did allow a security update a couple nights ago but I ignore anything referring to IE7.

hehe
you could turn it completely off and just check windowsupdate.com once a week or so.
Of course, then you have to deal with windows complaining at you that updates are turned off...

Cut and paste are still available in IE 7
Go to Tools (should be far right with the gear wheel on the bottom tool bar)
Select Toolbars, then Customize (last option under Toolbars)
You can then add Cut, Paste to the tool bar and change the order of the tool bar
My Christmas gift to the list :-)
