Is there an official explanation on the frequent board failures? Just curious, and not looking for a fight on this.

Not yet. I was able to just get on now though, so I'm assuming that either Dee or Clay woke up, checked their email, saw my complaint in there, and restarted it or whatever. I'm betting that there's an SQL error occurring occasionally or something, but I haven't seen any sort of official word on it.
The Sunday morning thing is what's most frequent. I think that that's a backup system that's mis-configured and ends up hanging the system or something.
All the above are just guesses though. I'm only a moderator, so I don't have access to anything that could actually tell me what's going on.

Thank You Ohm for the reply BUT it would be nice if Clay or Dee actually filled us in (the forum users) on the whys/whens & whats because the frequency is most annoying & yesterday it went down fo nearly 6+ hours - both BM & BMo forums were down "blocking" drafts/moves etc.
Like Robinhoodnik I am not looking for a fight but a CONCISE & CLEAR explaination from the competent authorities....thank you

Hi!
So, you want to get the same answer from me, eh? :)
The board has been going up and down (not just on Sunday mornings, but that's the most common - like Ohms said, it may be due to strain from a backup running while the board's running). If you want the honest and most accurate answer from the person who would be in the know (Ian):
"We're not sure why."
At this point, we're starting to suspect the hardware...but everything we've suspected we've fixed (save hardware). Like Ohms, we were suspecting SQL but we just haven't found a smoking gun in there, and it's been patched and prodded and poked. So, we're going to cram more RAM in there and hope that that does it. After that, we break out the chicken's foot rattles and voodoo dolls. Next comes crystals and aromatherapy.
After that, we break out the BIG TRASH DUMPSTER and 8 pound sledgehammer. Or, better yet, I take that server, fill it with kitty litter and let my cats have it. (I hope the computer is listening...!)

lol
Here's something to think about. Have Ian check out the linkage between the BMO server and the web/forum server. Hardware is a pretty good bet, but cross database SQL calls, which are obviously being run by the BMO server to fill in the forum info on the league pages, are a common problem for network engineers. ...As a quick and dirty test, you could turn that feature off on the BMO server for a couple of days (if that's doable without a major software rewrite). It'd kind of suck to loose that feature in BMO, but it might be worth it to find out. Something to consider at least, short of filling the server case with Kitty litter.

I was suspecting some smoking GUM myself. :p

Maybe have Papa Shango (another outdated WWF reference) and Godsmack in to help out? :)

You can also rent a nifty log splitter for the day for maximum destruction value.
Thanks Dee.

Thank You for the reply - just as a footnote it ( & again no disprespect inteneded to ANY of the moderators) is NICE to know that SM does "read & react" to posts & also that Info from the "top" (even confirmation) helps...

Obviously the server didn't hear my crack about the litterbox.
In all seriousness, as soon as Baseball Mogul 2008 goes beta, Ian's going to move the board to it's own server (or a different server..we haven't decided) and work on it.
Right now, the boards are on the main server, so every time they die they also take Mogul's main page OFF THE NET every time it crashes! We're an online-only company. No net = no existence. We cease to exist every time the board farts. ARG.
So, a fix is coming -- as soon as Ian can pull his head away from his current grindstone and then apply it to this one. Sorry I don't have better news. Right now, Baseball Mogul 2008 is "the proverbial elephant who sits whereever it wants" so we have to do that first.
