View Full Version : It's BBMO March Madness!!!!

Welcome to BBMO March Madness!

With a new Baseball season and the NCAA tournament coming, I would like to enhance the fun of BBMO by running a tournament with 32 or 64 BBMO players in the BBMO general forums. This is NOT a NEW league. If you have TWO teams in a qualifying league you can participate. BBMO leagues that qualify must have simulated at least three seasons, has 26 or more owners with a speed of 20 to 72 per day leagues and the league does not allow one year contracts >5 million in the off season.

THERE IS NO COST INVOLVED!!!

HOW IT WORKS: a BBMO player in a qualified league can designate who he/she feels is his/her best BBMO team by March 10th to enter the tournament. On March 11th the selection committee will determine the Tournament brackets. Points will be based on Mogul Rating for the next upcoming seasons starting around March 11th (I will post starting seasons for various qualified leagues). So a good KC team may beat an average New York team. If the total participants are 32, it will be a double elimination tournament. If it is 64, it will be a single elimination tournament. ONLY TWO teams can be designated per BBMO user. So pick your best TWO!

HOW TO JOIN: Just reply to this post with your team, league and your last mogul rating achieved in the league: Example: daves, Chicago A, Independent League 30, 81. It’s that easy. Feel free to add additional information about your team if you wish!

First 64 qualifying posts are in!

TIE BREAKER: In event of a tie in a round the next season will count for the tiebreaker in current round and represent your score for the next round if you win the tiebreaker.

OTHER RULES: If you advance in the tournament and your league falls below 25 gm’s for the next season, you MUST substitute your team with a team you have in a different qualifying league or join a qualifying league. If you don’t, you will automatically lose the next matchup. You CANNOT substitute teams in any other situations or change teams in a qualifying league during the tournament. You will also be eliminated if you bend or break the rules setup for your league.

Again, there is NO cost to participate and I will try to workout BBMO prizes with Clay. Team s maybe grouped based on the market size and the type of league (i.e. Yankee teams in unequalized leagues may face each other in the early rounds). This is meant to add to the fun and excitement of the game without forming a new league and asking people to leave respectful leagues to join a new one.

Do you have the Cinderella team of the BBMO tournament?

*If you look on the history page it will show 150 as the bonus but this is off because the game introduced a bug when we switched over to the 2100's and all market bonus pts are messed up. (Texas gets 26, KC gets 12 lol) Baltimore is supposed to get a 20 pt bonus in un-equalized leagues that started in 2004.

Daves, I put an ad for this in IL30 and BOTB. I hope that is OK. Anyway, I love this idea. How are we going to do seedings? I like the idea of grouping leagues, but I would also like to see Duke and UNC in different brackets if you know what I mean. I think this may be a good way to get to know other owners and other leagues.

Yup. Why don't you come up with a point structure for your WS rankings and reward teams for advancing each round? This might help participation in both.

This will be structured differently, so I think a point system like all those office pools we do would work better.

64 teams - winning first round season 1 point
32 teams - advancing to sweet 16 is 2 points
16 teams - advancing to elite is 4 points
8teams - advance to final 4 is 8 points
4 teams - advance to final is 16 points
2 teams - winning it all is 32 points.

Thanks. That's great. The more advertising the more likely we can get a full 64! :) As far as the brackets, I plan to divide up the leagues *edit* into different regions and try to rank teams based on past performances.

No. It's for future seasons seasons starting around March 11th and after. Depending how far you go it can be upto the next 6 upcoming seeasons.

Once you designate your team I will have Selection Sunday next week to rank teams and make brackets. Then as your leagues sim, your next upcoming season(s) mogul rating(s) will be your score against your opponent.

Below is an example of how a bracket might look. The mogul ratings represent their mogul rating in their respective league in the next upcoming season to determine who advances to the next round.
http://forum.sportsmogul.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=7124&stc=1&d=1172976570

I need your current mogul ratings to deteremine rankings and brackets. I will try to avoid pitting two teams in the same league against each other. Just sign in and your in. But you better hurry because I am taking the first 32 or 64 teams into the tournament.:)

ohms_law

So, current meaning the year last finished, or current meaning the highest rating that you've gotten? Or, your team's average, straight from the history page?

The ones from leagues I am in that deserve a top seed are-

Houston IL30 Vinny - in the middle of a dynasty in a league that resembles the Big East

Pittsburgh BOTB Justin - this team is in its prime and just finished 2nd last cycle and is coming off their best season. With a lot of players leaving early this team return all its upperclassmen.

Kotoll's best team will be the St. Joseph of the tourney

And whatever team JMO joins with will get the last spot.

It will be based on your mogul rating. Whoever has a higher rating advances. If there is a tie, both advance and there will be a 3 way matchup the next round.

I sent him PM. his main team is rebuilding on the fly, so i am not sure if he feels like he has a shot to win it. i would never put it past him though.

Mogul points from which season(s), though?

Just curious about this mogul points thing? Wouldn't teams in equalized leagues, or leagues with gimmicks that closer equalize things be at a disadvantage here? The more bunched and equal teams are, the less mogul points could be earned theoretically.

and I suppose the only team I have that qualify's is from Cascade my Baltimore club. They are horrid, a 61 in mogul points last season lmao. For the record, I just took them over.

I'm sorry, I didn't know that's how it was done either. I thought we'd somehow found a way to import teams into a league or tourn.

Mogul points from unrelated leagues seems like a pretty silly way of determining a winner.

Sorry you feel that way. Mogul points seemed to be the only universal way to match teams. Just trying to add to the fun of BBMO.

Scooter (I think) has a "custom" Mogul Points system, I think. It'd probably take more time to tally up the scores, but it might help address the issue that Illyaso brings up.

That's cool. Yento and I were talking about it some this morning is all, so I just wanted to be clear about it.

The initial rankings for the tournament will be based on latest mogul ratings for teams and overall team rating. I have most of the information except for 2 leagues. I appreciate the help and cooperation I am getting from many of the commisioners.

After that I will be more than flexible if someone thinks there is a better way to determine winners. I know there are some talented BBMO players in IL30 and BOTB that know different ways to rate who wins. But I don't want to make it too difficult and time consuming. I did have a mogul rating post in the General Forum. I still believe it is the best way to go.

Right now I just want to try to fill the last eight spots and get the brackets posted. So feel free to tell others and if you only have one team in the tournament, you can add a second one. :)

BTW: What is going on in SAN DIEGO??? Three of the top 10?
Revenue baby, revenue.
The "problem" is that San Diego starts off as a "small market" team in 2006. Therefore, they always earn mogul points at a higher rate than the other large market teams. It only seems to take a few seasons of success to really get the revenue rolling in SD, from what I've seen.
