sigh, another beta season, another beta result... :)

7 teams won 100, 7 teams lost 100...

My San Diego team had a great year (93-69), and... finished 9 games back of the wild card, and never got closer than about 6 games out all season long.

There wasn't much fun, despite having a good record, since there was no tension over who would make the playoffs. This is a HUGE problem that these insane records produce. If very few teams won/lost 100 (like real baseball), teams would be clustered closer together in W-L, and the game would be 100x more exciting for us, as we watch competitive teams fight for playoff spots... As it is, I ended up bringing up minor league players for September, on a team that was 20+ games over .500... ?!?

My other league? I went a respectable 85-77, good enough in real baseball to usually be competitive at least... and my team finished 18 (?!?) games out of the wild card.

I can only think of one time in recent baseball history that a team w/ 100+ wins would have been a wild card, the '93 Giants... and they're commonly considered the best team ever to not reach postseason (because there was no wild card then)... In Mogul they'd be lucky to reach postseason at all, and could easily come in 3rd or 4th for a wild card.

This isn't good. IMO this should be the #1 priority for the guys to address before this game goes "live". Not only are the current W-L extremes wildly unrealistic, but they also take alot of the tension and fun out of the game, as many playoff spots are determined in May. We have situations like the (real) Seattle Mariners, in Mogul, in almost every playoff spot.

I believe there are 2 main causes of this:

1) WAAAAY too easy to stockpile talent on a few teams, and leave a few teams gutted. The budget and free-agent models aren't working properly in this respect, and need fixing.

2) I think the simming engine may be a little too predictable. Even with the talent levels skewed towards a few teams, the records are still too extreme. In real baseball, Pittsburgh (worst record in NL) just took a series from Arizona (Division leader)... I wonder if that even happens in Mogul with these rosters? I suppose this one can't be checked out until #1 is addressed...

Anyway, I've rambled enough, but I just wanted to keep this issue alive, since it's going to be my #1 determining factor in whether I'll pay for this game or not... :)
