Hello all!

I am looking to upgrade my Notebook memory to make it a tad faster, I currently have 512 memory on it with a 1.6 centrino processor.

I would like to upgrade it to 2gig of memory...

Besides putting the memory in myself and voiding my warranty. (which I really dont care about)

I really do not know anything about adding memory or componets to a computer...

I have labtop mag (april 2007 edition), and it is directing me to
http://www.crucial.com/

They have some memory kits available for not that much money. For just around $150, i can upgrade my memory and get 2 gigs of ram....

Sorry for my rambling post...bottom line, should i just buy the memory or buy a kit?

crucial, kingston, and the other "name brand" memory sticks are a rip off. Do a (very) little bit of leg work and you'll save yourself tons of money. Just buy the memory that you're notebook takes is all.

I highly recommend http://www.pricewatch.com/
Go to the site, click on the Notebook memory link, and look for you're manufacturer. It can take a little bit of time to locate exactly what you need, but the price difference makes it worth it. For example, 1GB of RAM for my Toshiba laptop from Crucial is $110, while the same memory from pricewatch is available right now from a place called Alpha International Business Inc. for $77.

ps.: memory retailers always, always try to rip you off by selling the "higher quality" memory sticks. 10 years ago it really could make a big difference, but these days there are actually only 3 (...maybe 5, depending on you're definition) DRAM memory manufacturers. Don't be fooled, it's all the same. By what their advertising.
