Pre-Season 2007:
Baltimore Orioles Lineup:
2B - Brian Roberts
Brian struggled through 2006 after busting out in 2005. The Orioles know that BR can form a solid 1-2 with Tejeda up the middle, so a return to the 2005 form at the plate would be a welcome upgrade for the Orioles offence.
29y/o - Earning $6.16m thru 2009
3B - Melvin Mora
Experienced Mora started to show signs of his age as he put up declining numbers. This 35 year old is well lliked in Baltimore so will be backed to reproduce the form shown in previous years.
35y/o - Earning $8.33m thru 2009
RF - Nick Markakis
Young Markakis is in only his 2nd full year in the Majors and has all the potential to improve on his .291 / 16HR year in '06. Scouts are predicting that this kid has a bright future both in the field and at the plate.
23y/o - Earning $380k until Arbitration 2009
SS - Miguel Tejeda
The talisman and leader of this ballclub has been through the annual trade speculation again this off-season, however as always he will suit up a 'Bird for Opening Day. Tejeda has never missed a game for the O's and will be hoping to continue his streak .300 / +25HR this year.
30y/o - Earning $12.66m thru 2009
LF - Jay Gibbons
Jay has constantly flattered to deceive and is now your average Mr Utility as he covers any hole that the O's need filling. Jay had a stellar 2005, before tailing of again in 2006. As always he is considered a useful addition to the Roster.
30y/o - Earning $5.63m thru 2009
1B - Aubrey Huff
Big hitting Huff was acquired from the Devil Rays mid way through last year. He instantly settled into the Orioles lineup and is expected to improve on his numbers and give depth to the Orioles card.
30y/o - Earning $6.66m thru 2009
CF - Corey Patterson
Baltimore picked up Patterson for his speed and it proved a decent deal with CP grabbing a career high 45 bags for the O's last year. A more consistent run at the plate should see an upgrade from the .276 batted last year.
27y/o - Earning $4.3m thru 2007
C - Ramon Hernandez
Ramon stepped up in his first year as an O' following a big money deal during free agency. The Orioles will need his bat to carry on connecting as there is alot more to come.
30y/o - Earning $7.33m thru 2009
DH - Kevin Millar
Another veteran in the clubhouse, Millar will offer the patience required to ensure a soild line through 2007. Anything more than 15HR will be a positive outcome in what is likely a last year in Baltimore.
35y/o - Earning $2.75m thru 2007
Bench:
IF - Chris Gomez
55 games in 2006 yielded a .341 batting average. Unlikely to be much more involved than that in '07.
OF - Val Majewski
Rookie outfielder who may not cut it at the big club.
C - Paul Bako
Bako will have to prove a worthy defensive Catcher to make up for an obvious lack of hitting.
OF - Brandon Fahey
Another average outfielder, has to prove alot to earn anything more than a trip back to the farm.
OF - Jay Payton
Payton has to earn respect in Baltimore to get himself off the pine an out onto the field. Could prove useful in defensive situations.
Minor Leaguers:
AAA - Norfolk Tides
1B - Brandon Sing
LF - Jason Dubois
3B - Terry Tiffee
CF - Adam Stern
C - J.R House
AA - Bowie Baysox
C - Eli Whiteside
OF - Jeff Fiorentino
LF - Freddie Bynum
C - Adam Donachie
RF - Nolan Reimold
A - Frederick Keys

Baltimore Orioles Starting Rotation:
#1 - Eric Bedard
This lefty finally came good for the Orioles in 2006 with 15 wins and a 3.76ERA. 2007 should be an even better year for the ace in Baltimore's staff and given it is his contract year, the O's best make sure they are ready to fight for his signature in the off-season.
28y/o - Earning $3.4m thru 2007
#2 - Daniel Cabrera
Young DCab has bags of upside to his game. There is plenty of natural talent in this kids locker and with Mazzone as the Coach, that locker could finally open up a new era in Baltimore baseball.
25y/o - Earning $380k until Arbitration 2007
#3 - Adam Loewen
Another very young pitcher in this rotation who will need a guiding hand through the tough spots to ensure there is no meltdown. 19 starts as a 21 year old proves that he is very much part of this clubs future.
22y/o - Earning $380k until Arbitration 2009
#4 - Steve Trachsel
Steve gives the rotation a stack of experience, as well as coming off a hot year which saw him win 15 games for the Mets in '06. Entering his 15th year of MLB service, Trachsel may be at the end of a fruitful career but you can guarantee his commitment to going out at the top.
36y/o - Earning $3.1m thru 2007
#5 Jaret Wright
Great for Atlanta in 2004 Jaret will team up with his old mentor Leo Mazzone as he hopes to recapture some of his dominance that saw him take 15 wins with a 3.28ERA for the Braves. Success will help clear up the disappointment suffered as a Yankee in recent seasons.
30y/o - Earning $4.0m thru 2007
Bullpen:
Closer - Chris Ray
Ray took over from BJ Ryan after the latters big money move to Toronto for 2006. Ray impressed the Orioles with 33 saves, ensuring he remains the Closer for 2007.
25y/o - Earning $380k until Arbitration 2008
Setup - Chad Bradford
Chad is a solid setup man and will always pitch honestly. Pitched 70 games for the dominant Mets in 06, so will be well adjusted for another heady workload if required.
32y/o - Earning $3.5m thru 2009
Short Relief - Jamie Walker
Another guy with experience in the Bullpen and will be called upon in situations were a cool head is needed. Unlikely to pitch too often due to his declining stamina.
35y/o - Earning $4.0m thru 2009
Short Relief - John Parrish
A solid lefty for the Orioles, who will be looking for a return to the form of 2004, when he pitched in 56 games winning 6 decisions.
29y/o - Earning $612k thru 2011
Middle Relief - Scott Williamson
A highly rated pitcher during his time with Cincinnati, Williamson has fallen by the wayside in recent years. There is still enough in the tank for Scott to come good and be a worthy addition in the Orioles pen.
31y/o - Earning $900k thru 2007
Long Relief - Danys Baez
A star closer for the Devil Rays, Baez is another member of this Orioles staff that has had the right stuff, before mediocre set in and they became a nobody. Danys will get given alot of responsibility in an effort to return him back to his best.
29y/o - Earning $6.33m thru 2009

April Recap:
Wrap:
A more than productive month sees the Orioles playing over .666 ball as they entertain a 2 game lead over the rest out east. Surprisingly an underrated pitching staff leads the division in ERA, as Cabrera and Loewen are proving to be lynchpins in a solid starting crew. Complimenting them is a workhorse bullpen that sees Chris Ray headlining with 8 saves, whilst Parrish, Baez, Walker and Bradford are all contributing with their consistency.
Offensively, Jay Gibbons is the standout guy as he is putting up career numbers with 12HRs, though many are solo shots as he has only driven in 18. Patterson is another over-achieving in the lineup, as the Orioles await Huff, Tejeda, Roberts and Mora to get into first gear and drive forward their production.
Financially things are not too hot, a payroll that exceeds $100 milion could be an issue if the Orioles slip from the race, this has also ruled them out of a run at signing Roger Clemens who chose to return to New York.... with the Mets.
Baltimore are lucky to have got through April with a healthy lineup, as the return of Hernandez and Payton allows more options. And bar minor niggles, the pitching staff have also come through unscathed.
On a sidenote Jaret Wright has been optioned to AAA Norfolk for May, with Hayden Penn recalled for the first time this year.

May Recap:
Wrap:
The Orioles continue their success through May going 17-11 and improving to 33-19, 3GA on the year. Offensively the Orioles are becoming more rounded, as Gibbons has tailed off although he still leads the team with 14HR. Patterson however continues his fine form, batting .310 11HR 43RBI 12SB. Baltimore can credit their success to a solid home record of 25-6, as well as the AL's 3rd best Team ERA at 4.37.
Contributing to that ERA is a rotation that sees Loewen coming out as a stud, with a 7-1 record with a 3.80ERA and 55K. Cabrera, Bedard and Trachsel all have winning records, whilst Dannys Baez is the standout from the Bullpen with 3 wins and a 2.40ERA, his work through a muiltitude of scenarios has been one of the fairytales in the Orioles revival.
Another factor in the success is the healthy stature of the roster, although Scott Williamson (Rotator Cuff) and Hayden Penn (Foot Fracture) have both been moved to the DL going into June, in general the lineup and pitching crew have been able to stay consistent in the managers plans. Due to Penns injury, Jaret Wright has comeback up from AAA having gone 1-0 from 5 starts with a 3.03ERA.
June sees Inter-League play come into force, as well as the O's travelling on the Road for 17 of their 27 games in the month.

Baltimore Orioles Picks:
1 - Manuel Rodriguez (1B)
20y/o Domincan born Rodriguez has put up big numbers at College (Tennessee) hitting over 50HR in the past 2 years.
2 - Colby Scheetz (SP)
19y/o Scheetz will be coming straight from high school where he has won 32 games over 4 years. His fastball could be a go-to pitch topping 100mph.
3 - Peter Spooner (CF)
This 18y/o has bags of speed and is projected to turn into a everyday starter. If he can add pop to that speed, he may play a big part in the bigs.
4 - Garret Toops (SS)
Currently at U.C. Irvine, 22y/o Toops is an agile Shortstop and has the right glove to play a part on defense. There is alot more work required to allow him to add offensive numbers to his game.

3 straight sub 2.00 ERA years at Tulane College stand him in good stead to make the grade. His starts include a CG shutout in his last year at College.
6 - Angel Terrace (RP)
A risky pick and a potential career Minor Leaguer, however Angel does have some stuff and could be moulded into a Bullpen gem by Mazzone.

Statistically the Orioles are still matching up both sides of the plate within the American League, however there is a noticable downgrade in the standard of starting pitching, with only Adam Loewen still commanding any credit.
Gibbons and Patterson are in the midst of personal slumps, though they lead the HR and SB categories in the team. Markakis leads the team with 54 RBI, though both Tejada and Gibbons also have 50RBI to their name.
Adam Loewen is still the shining light for the Orioles pitching staff, going 9-3 with a 4.42ERA. Trachsel at 7-5 is the only other starter on this crew with a winning record, whilst a struggling bullpen see's Chris Ray with 16 saves, though he has added 3 losses to his record.
