Mr. Hancock was over the legal limit, both in terms of alcohol and velocity, was talking on his cell phone, and was not wearing his seat belt. Not that a seat belt would have made much difference.

They also found pot in his SUV.

It's still sad, but I really don't feel bad for him anymore. I'm serious.
Drunk driving is stupid, anyone who does it is stupid. Not only are you basically sealing your own fate, you can innocents down with you.

I agree drunk driving is stupid but so is getting drunk, doing marijuana, etc. There are larger issues here....like did his fellow players know he was doing these things to excess....goes back to an overall drug/addiction problem in sports etc.

did his fellow players know he was doing these things to excessI think they'd have to be blind not to. You know the day he showed up 20 minutes late for a game? The night before, he wrecked his car in a small Illinois town known for industrial parks, bars, strip joints, and little else.
This is probably why he was driving a rental.

Exactly so then even though I believe in personal responsability I also say the team, management, players, etc all should take a good look at what they are not doing and hopefully this will be a wakeup call.

Well just look at the coach of the team! maybe he was having a few drinks with Larussa before the accident.....

I still think he should have lost his **** job.

Agreed! Setting the bar low when your own coach can't stay out of a vehicle when intoxicated. Maybe the whole team should go through mandatory AA!

Hancock's family is upset about some of the info released
Its sad enough Josh died but now his family basically wanted to hide the truth from the public. maybe they should think more about why they did not tell Josh that pot and drinking and driving don't mix! Must have been the type of parents that let the commercials raise there kids and warn them.
Hopefully some good will come of this and save some future lives. Maybe a ballplayers or two will avoid getting behind the wheel.

Why are you accusing his parents of bad parenting? Do you know a single thing about how he was raised?

LMAO. I'm sure his parents told him that many times. The guy was 29 years old. Did you always do exactly what your parents told you?? Geez your making some pretty broad judgements..

I am sorry but we have a society that is always trying to pass the buck. I believe in personal responbsability. You can choose right or wrong...if you have normal brain functions...

Come on, people. This is insane. He was a 29 year old man. Like HoustonGM said, you can't blame his parents. You can't blame his teammates or coach. He was old enough to know what he was doing was wrong. He paid the ultimate price. It's very sad. But to blame anyone else, thats just pathetic.

Well his father is blaming everybody...In my local newspaper it was reported that Josh Hancock's father was suing the tow truck driver, the guy who's car stalled and the bar owner for his death.
