For example, how many minor league players I should keep. Specifically, how many at each level, and what would be the best/average rating for players at each level. Also, about how long should I keep them in the farm system before bringing them up to the bigs?
I just want what's best for my prospect, ya know? :)
Thanks in advance!

Well, it really doesn't matter specifically how many players you have on your roster. The conventional wisdom is that you don't want more than one player at the same position at the same level at the same time. Other than that though, just keep your farm system funded.

And your scouting may tell you to is he ready now or give him a few years if you watch the stats do change for better or worse.

Does anyone have any research or numbers to back up the fact that you shouldn't have more than one guy at each position in each level in the minors? I have never paid attention to this and I have never had problems developing youth.
All I do is place the guys that I just drafted in Rookie ball and then watch their stats and move them up or down accordingly. I have never worried if I have two SS at AA or three 1B at AAA.
I would like to see some numbers on this to back it up. Not that I am denying that it is the truth, I am just curious as to how much of a difference it can make.

Yea, me too.

Well, the nice thing about Mogul is the fact you can test all sorts of therories extremely easily!

Exactly, and in all my time of playing the game I have never once even noticed that anything like this has any impact on how my guys develop. Sure I have had guys that just take a long time, but I have never seen the number of players at a certain position in one league have anything to do with guys advancing or not advancing.
On the topic of prospect development, I had a pitcher that was rated (79/95) for the longest time. After the end of one season I saw his rating jumped to (88/95), so I got really excited and put him in the starting rotation. After Spring training and on opening day, I was pretty shocked to see his new rating of (55/75). Is this a bug or has anyone else seen this before?

Depends. What version are you using, and what is the reported error level for your team's scouting? (the +- listed on the player's scouting card)

Clay has said himself that two or more players at one position in the same league can harm the development of both players because the AI splits playing time amongst them.

The only thing I have found having multiple players at the same position and level is that the playing time is split up or may be in favor of another player. So if you want a player to get full playing time adjust your roster acoordingly

Since Mogul 2007 has been released?

That's the thing. It may be true, but I don't see it. Can anyone show an example that illustrates that this effect is actually occurring?

I'm fairly certain. Not positive though. (Considering after I was away from the game for two years or so after I got BM2k3, and joined up again towards the END of 2k6's run, I'm fairly certain it was during 2k7 that he mentioned it.)

I just did a quick one month sim with 3 players at first base in AAA. The late-20s journeyman (Robby Hammock) has 10 games played, 5 at first,a nd I'm assuming 5 as a pinch-hitter. The best prospect of the bunch James D'Antona has 20 games played, 14 at first. Chris Carter, the worst of the 3, has 7 games played, and just 1 at first.

This also happened to me. I had a pitcher in his 3rd year in the minors, rated (79/95). One of my starters got injured in spring training for a season and a half, so I brought the kid up. Now... he finished the year with the following stats, yet somehow, his rating dropped to (55/82):

No one is arguing that playing time is split, what we want to see is the fact that the players actually have trouble progressing their ratings. I haven't seen it. Sure they split playing time but I have yet to have a guy not develop properly just because there was another guy at his position at the same level.

Well, splitting time will slow a players development down. It won't ruin them by any means, but they won't develop as quickly. That much I know just from experience.

That'd be much more difficult to prove, and only Clay can give us a definitive answer. I can't find the post where he said that, but I do remember him mentioning it a while ago.

Yep, from experience I'd say the same thing. Of course, sometimes slowed development can be a good thing. I wish I'd slowed the development of that young LF I traded away for prospects at the deadline because I wasn't going to have a starting spot for him on the major league roster for a couple of years, and I didn't want to sit and watch his skills decline in AAA. The one who went on to be named MVP in both the ALCS and World Series that same year for the team I traded him to. ;)

Except that I had it happen annoyingly often in my 10.22 updated version -- any age, any level of development, the abilities of a given player suddenly "collapse." Not as bad as on 2007, but definitely noticeable.
Of course, when it always seems to happen to your CLOSER, annoyingly often is it happening at all.
Which brings me to my question. Sometimes players can recover when that **** hits the fan. If they're young enough, some minor league time helps, and they can sometimes rebuild decent careers for themseles even when that's not an option. But I don't like leaving things like toat to chance.I want to know why and how these collapses happen, and I want to know how to resuccitate my players when they do hit the brick wall.

I've seen those brick walls Jump out at my players online and the Mogul games.I for one usually close my eyes to the rating jump/drop and determine if the player in question should stay in or not.,An example Mogul 2008.playing Yr 1901-05 A SS player rank no higher than67 Gets Gold glove and Plays well through year. An online I've fun with league boards Start those sudden 66+
pitchers that were 80 a sim ago.
