I would like to see a higher difficulty level. The Mogul difficulty level can still be kind of easy. Basically, i would like to see a difficulty level that really puts the player at a disadvantage toward the computer (ex. harder to make money, players wont more money, teams wont trade fairly...)

I think what you really want is for the AI to get smarter and also free agency to work a little different. Having players want more money isn't going to change anything. At the end of the day there is a specific formula that a player will sign or not sign. It's not like you have to use your shrewd negotiating skills to talk a player in to signing for your team. If you offer him enough he'll sign with you. What needs to happen that would make it more difficult is for players to not sign with certain teams and also demand more money to go to certain teams. So if a 35 year old hall of famer hasn't won a world series they are a lot more likely to sign with a world series contender.

You could always choose to play as KC, Florida, or Pittsburgh... :p

I built an ***-kicking dynasty with KC, won 7 World Series in 10 seasons, in MOGUL mode.

I have a formula that can turn any team into a champion:

1. Trade off your veterans and start from scratch with prospects;
2. If a young guy doesn't have huge potential and is heading for arbitration, deal him before the deadline;
3. Repeat 1 and 2 until you have a huge young talent pool; by this time you'll also likely have a pile of cash;
4. When the team is on the verge, go free agent hunting and make a big trade or two...

Voila. Works every time.

It's harder to actually keep a dynasty going with a crappy franchise than it is to build it up.

Also, building a new stadium always pays off.

thats exactly why i find it so easy. I guess it needs to be harder to get prospects because loading up on prospects every draft day is too easy.

you could turn down draft talent, decrease draft predictability, and bar yourself from offering trades or altering ones the AI offers.

for all it's flaws, the game does give the user a wealth of options to tweak gameplay to suit his or her whim...

Yeah, just enforce rules on yourself. The real life rule is that draft picks can't be traded until they'ev been in your organization for a year. Don't trade for draft picks right at draft day...

Good ideas. You could also turn off showing peak scores. It won't stop a true juggernaut, but it will slow things down some.

All good suggestions to make things more competitive. Also, stay within budget for salaries, don't send veterans on you team to minors, just because their ratings fall off. In rl, they probably wouldn't accept a demotion. Keep players who are injured for just a few days on your active roster, i. e., if they are not out for 10+ games, don't replace them, unless they can be put on the dl for 15 days or more. Try to keep the game as realistic and possible and you'll find things more competitive. Of course, if all you want to do is win, you can always beat the AI.
I like your idea of building up your team through prospects, many rl organizations try to do the same and it works, sometime (see Pittsburgh, Minnesota and Milwaukee, for instance).

That's an excellent idea and something I have always done as well. If I sign my 85+ starting pitcher to a four-year (Major League) contract and suddenly his rating the next season is a 66 (for whatever reason), I keep him. Same with a hitter who tanks over one offseason. I seem to remember the Yankees had that issue with Jason Giambi a few years ago when he was under the Mendoza Line. They were thinking of sending him to AAA, but he likely wouldn't have accepted the assignment. Until waivers, options, etc. are implemented into BBM (I won't hold my breath), it's sort of an "honesty" thing that I end up doing for myself.

However, my peeve is that the game is based on numbers TOO MUCH, at times, for the AI. Obviously I can't control their moves and I have no desire to human control every team, but I hate seeing a Hall of Famer in the prime of their career with high ratings all of a sudden be riding the bench and have that one season of 155 games and 171 AB tainting their career, only because the rookie that was brought up has a rating a couple of points higher.

Another little thing I do is never make trades over a certain amount of players. Even if I could get Albert Pujols for 15 mediocre players that are space fillers, I don't make those trades.

Try this:

1) Contract renewals +100% (players less likely to go to Free Agency to begin with)
2) Salary Demands -50% (players are more likely to be retained by their original club - because of finances)
3) Draft Predictability -100% (you are less likely to know the future of a draft pick)
4) Computer offers trades (off) Only you can initiate a trade with the computer.

Do like I do and limit yourself to 1 trade every 5 years and no Free Agent signings - and it won't be so easy - even if you have a lot of money to spend, there is nothing to spend it on except a new stadium. Wher I make those few trades I do is I set the computer offers trades to yes about 2 weeks prior to a trade deadline - and let them make me offers - not the other way around.
