Ver 10.24. Am playing with historical players only. Seems like many players enter the draft and are signed by teams too early, or, at least, earlier than they actually did. For example, my 1957 draft had Lou Brock, age 17, drafted by the New York Giants. Brock, and others, did not enter professional baseball until several years later, after playing in college. My question is, why does BBM have these players entering the draft and playing pro ball before they actually did? I'm sure there is a resonable explanation.

My question is, why does BBM have these players entering the draft and playing pro ball before they actually did?Everyone is drafted at age 18/19, including Satchel Paige.

It's possible to add actual draft dates for everyone after 1955 or so but that would be a massive amount of work.

Oh...I see, its just how the game is set-up. I only wish it could be tweeked so that real (historical) players don't enter the draft until the year they actually signed a pro contract.

That would open quite a problem because the draft isn't the only way to gain players -- Latin American training camps and other foreign signings like Chien Ming Wang also flesh out the minors, and there's also direct signings of professionals to major league contracts, like Daisuke, or Matsui.

All true. I would prefer, however, that players not be available until they actually were in rl. Foreign players like Matsui and others could be listed on the Free Agent list and available to all, just as in rl..but, not before they were actually available in rl mlb.

The thing is that the Lahman Database doesn't have the information about when a player was drafted.
