In the new scoring system, why are teams like SF, CHA, STL and ARI given a higher scoring bonus than teams like TOR, ANA and PHI? According to the stats in our league (2002 & Beyond) the latter teams earn less revenue than the former teams. Can someone please look into this?

Example:

Arizona has averaged a 98-64 record with 2 NL Championships through 2011. Arizona has averaged 581 points of revenue per season.

Anaheim has averaged a 107-55 record with 5 AL championships and 4 World Championships in the same period. Yet, Anaheim has averaged only 520 points of revenue per year.

Here's the punchline- Arizona gets a 22 point scoring bonus every year while Anaheim only gets 18. I got the scoring bonus stats from the link below.

These bonuses are based on my current data for the long-term financial resources of each team. If Arizona falters, I believe their revenue will fall below that of Anaheim.

In any case, these numbers will probably be tweaked as we keep testing.

I hate to say this but I think I might actually prefer the old system to the new one.

Under the new scoring system there seems to be almost no reward for taking the former tier four and tier five teams in regular non-equalized leagues.

It also seems like it is much harder to catch up to other players under the new scoring system once they get way ahead although I could be wrong about this.

Please let us know when and if you decide to tweak this some more or better yet if you go back to the old system.

The new system has been popular so far, so I don't think we will be going back to the system that simply rewarded teams based on the playoffs.

The old system was seriously flawed because of this:
Team A, a tier 1, wins 130 games and wins his division. Gets something like 600 mogul points. They lose in first round of playoffs.
Team B, a tier 5, wins 87 games and gets the Wild Card. Somehow wins the World Series. Gets something like 2,500 points.

We will be tweaking the system in the future, so what you see now is not set in stone. We probably will be making adjustments, so don't cast a judgement on the new system yet...it will be a big improvement once it is streamlined and refined.

I had a sense that the new system was too much in the OTHER direction, but I wanted to try it out. I think there is something to be said for rewarding WINS, not just standing. Otherwise there is little incentive to try to win games once you are out of the playoff hunt.

But I agree with Schaefling that the poorer teams probably need more of a bonus AND the playoff bonuses should be a bit higher to bring SOME randomness (and thus the chance of catching up if you are behind) into the equation.
