No. The Reds will not make the playoffs. They aren't good enough. The Reds' opening day starter was Joey Hamilton for god's sake, and no team with Ken Griffey Jr. is going to ever make the playoffs again, unless of course he needs to get surgery and misses the season.

CARDINALS/REDS COMPARISON

Catcher: Mike Matheny vs. Jason LaRue/Corky Miller/Kelly Stinett: neither can hit worth anything, but Matheny is a gold glove catcher.

First Base: Tino Martinez vs. Sean Casey: In the long run, Casey, but for now it's pretty close.

Second Base: Fernando Vina vs. Todd Walker: Ok, I'll give you this one.

Shortstop: Edgar Renteria vs. Barry Larkin: Edgar Renteria, by far. Should have been an All-Star starter, but couldn't even make the team for some stupid reason, like Rollins.

Third Base: Scott Rolen vs. Aaron Boone: DUH!

Left Field: Albert Pujols vs. Adam Dunn: Close, but Pujols is my pick. I guess I'll let you have Dunn.

Center Field: Jim Edmonds vs. Ken Griffey Jr.: See my first paragraph.

Right Field: J.D. Drew vs. Austin Kearns: Both have been inconsistent, so I'll give you Kearns.

Cards are up 5-3. Pitching staff you shouldn't be forced to look at. We have Matt Morris, Woody Williams, and Jason Simontacchi, guys who are having AWESOME seasons. Andy Benes is coming back strong, Garrett Stephenson is coming back on the team, Chuck Finley we just got, it's deep. Reds have Ryan Dumpster, I mean Dempster, Elmer Dessens, and your bullpen ace singlehandedly blew an 8-0 lead over the Birds.

What are the odds of the NL Wild Card coming out of the Central?

Even if Houston comes on strong, and Cincy catches up with the Cardinals, it's gonna be from the West. 3 great teams in the West, if there were 5 playoff teams, there'd be 3 from the West. I usually like to have a complicated reasoning, but just check out the standings.
