Server Problems (Sunday 6/17/2007)

Just a quick update on BMO (and www.sportsmogul.com).

Sunday night around 11 pm, it looks like two hard drives on the web server died. We have a RAID array setup that can normally handle one hard drive dying. But when two die at about the same time, Ian needs to work pretty hard to try to get things back up and running without losing data.

So, as of Monday night, things still aren't 100%. For example, we still don't have SendMail (the e-mail server) working right.

I'm really sorry for the downtime. Two drives dying at the same time isn't something we were prepared for. There may be some more downtime over the next few days as we try to get things repaired. If you have specific issues with a league, such as lost data, you should probably post them here so we can try to assess them all as a group and ferret out the root cause.

One other (slightly related) issue is that several posts that were made around 10:30 - 10:45pm (Pacific time) Sunday night were corrupted by the server crash. Those posts are showing up as duplicate threads, but the first post in the thread is blank. You can reply to the thread, and it hasn't seemed to cause issues in the couple of instances I've seen where people have. I'm not 100% certain that the forum software can continue to handle them without problems. There messed up posts anyway, and as I come across them I've been "physically deleting" them. So, if you think that you made a post on Sunday or Monday but can't seem to find it, it's probably gone. Just repost it. If you come across a blank thread, send me a PM and I'll delete it when I receive the message.
