Those power rankings should be more volatile, especially before the All-Star break. The Yankees should be around 20, but 15 isn't too far off.

The Power Rankings are a big waste of time. The mean nothing. I have always wondered why sports publications even bother putting them togther. This isn't college football.

They have power rankings to give fans some way to rank the teams other than winning percentages. I like them, because my team might not be in first place, but I can still see how they stack up against the first place team beyond wins and losses.

The power rankings can be fun to watch. I'm a big fan of the expect win-loss formula.

But what is the formula they use?? How do they decide what teams go where?? It means NOTHING. It doesn't show you anything. All it shows is someone's opinion. Anyone who uses a power ranking poll to judge how good their team is needs to get their head examinated. Stats (wins, losses, AVG,ERA etc) will tell you how good your team is. But unless I'm missing something A power poll is just some jerk-offs opinion.

I'm fairly certain power rankings have a formula...that hasn't been disclosed..

I'm pretty sure that the formula includes most stats. The analysts that decide the power rankings don't just pull them out of thin air. The rankings are based on win-loss, hitting, pitching, and defense. If there wasn't any logical reasoning behind them, then they wouldn't exist.

The Yankees still have a 12.9% chance of making the playoffs? (according to baseball prospectus) Thats not too bad, and considering its the Yankees, I think they can do it!

I wouldn't be surprised to the Red Sox collapse. They peaked way too soon this year. Enter Yankees or some other darkhorse.

Toronto...

It wouldn't be unprecented, but with the near-litany of injuries it will be tough. The Jays do play their next 8 against Boston and NY.

Toronto...

Tampa Bay. They're due man!

All they need is four starters, four relievers, some big bats, a new stadium, some fans.............. they could do it.

Best AL = DETROIT

Best NL = SAN DIEGO

but still 80 games to play ;)

Seriously! The did manage to win one against the Royals. If you look at their schedule after the break, it doesn't look too good.

Detroit is probably the team to beat, although I like what the Indians are doing these days.

interesting to note this: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7004030

I am not a Yankee basher - as I believe if YOU SPEND & WIN then its a good & right INVESTMENT - but the 3 F grades handed out are "right" as the season stands.....I would also like to make the CASE that smart spending & great drafting can turn a "dumpster" into a "F1" ((remember Detroit under Trammell & the 100+ LOSS season & the way they got "treated" when they signed injury risked Pudge & Ordonez)

Are the '07 Yankees the biggest flop in baseball history?
...wow, what a question. Just a tad bit overstated, if you ask me.

Anyway, I'm just happy about: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim: A+
:)

Yeah definitely a tad bit overstated. You could look at a lot of teams that are like that. The thing with the Yankees they didn't necessarily have all the talent to be dominant team. They just hoped the amount they paid for "talent" would equal the caliber of "talent" they paid for. It just happened that buying players didn't work out for them this season.

Let's see how the season turns out. As much as I loathe the Yankees, somehow they are built for a serious comeback.

I agree they have a shot in making a comeback in the second half, but they shouldn't be coming from behind with a team like they have. Definitely a lot of big names with not too much chemistry right now, but the Yanks are famous for pulling together when it counts.

It has nothing to do with chemistry. It has to do with their team being decimated by injuries, their bullpen being overworked, and their pitching being generally bad.

Let us see how Clemens pitches against Kazmir tonight. The Yanks have an easy schedule for the rest of July. If they can't string together something this month, then I will start counting them out.
