I'm trying to reorg my team that's in debt. It won't let me resign anyone or drop anyone in mid contract. The thing is that I have 2 guys who are both making 29 and have been horrible, and now want 3 pt to sign for next year. This will get me out of debt quicker, so it goes against logical thought in my mind. I think you should be able to sign a contract if it will reduce your overall contract exposure.

We've talked about this, but we decided letting teams resign players to reduce their payroll was a bad idea.

Here's an example of why it could backfire:
The Senators have a payroll of 1000, because they raided the free agent market. They signed everyone way over their asking price to a 2 year deal. After one season, they win the World Series but are in -200 pt debt. Their ace, Barry Zito, is making 175 pts but wants to resign for a 100 pt, 7 year deal. Under your idea, they would be able to resign him, thus continuing to run the team into debt. After a few more years of winning, the GM quits, leaving the team ruined.
