View Full Version : Have Player Ratings Changed?

Lately I have been wondering if Player Ratings have been changed to reflect the potential abilities of players rather than their actual abilities. Is this the case or has greater randomization been put back into the game?

I ask this rather important question because player perfomances with a few exceptions seem to be all over the place these days and the days of knowing that certain players were "A" players and could always be counted on to perform to their ratings seems for the most part to be a thing of the past.

Personally I'm not all that thrilled with the change. I would, however, like to know if the Player Ratings are different or if greater randomization is now the norm for player performances in Basebal Mogul Online.

I would love to hear from Clay on this subject but just as important to me are managers comments on player ratings. I think there has been a signifigant change in player ratings and am surprised at the lack of interest in this topic.

For example I have A+ contact and A+ power hitters hitting under .300 with a distinct lack of power as compared to players in the past with similar ratings.

Here's another example. In one, league I have a pitcher with ratings of A/B-/A-/D- pitching very well with an ERA under 4.00 and a very solid win-lost ratio. In the past the combination of relative lack of control (B-) and definite lack of movement (D-) would have kept this guy from even making it to the majors let alone becoming a good starter.

Do you like what has happened or do you dislike what's happened? Let's hear from you.

I'll point this thread out to Clay...sorry for the delay in responding.

I've noticed that it is very hard to tell what a pitcher will do lately. Even name guys are very erratic. I had Ramiro Mendoza, and for a 5 year stretch he wasn't able to get an ERA under 5.56, after having a 2.03 ERA before that.

Many pitchers seem to pitch to a 3.50 - 4.50 ERA, then in what seems like a problem that effects the entire staff, they pitch to 7.00 - 8.00+ ERA's. Things just seem to be wildly erratic, and unrealistic.

I have some "A" contact youngsters who are batting .250... so I guess I'm hoping they improve! I also have "C" contact guys in AAA hitting .320, and I don't know what to do with them..maybe they're at their peak and would do OK in the majors..maybe I should trust the stats more than the ratings..

But I don't know!!

The biggest problem to me is that players careers are constantly changing course, which is very unrealistic. If a young player starts to show improvement for a few years, it should be very rare that he, all of a sudden, turns into garbage. Same with pitchers. Some guys start having their best years at around 28-30 years old. They shouldn't then start having 7.00+ ERA's after they show that they are quality pitchers.

This stuff happens way to often in the game now.

Scouting has really become a waste of money IMO. Pitchers are the worst offenders for unreliability. I've had starters with great scouting reports and A+ Mvt get absolutely hammered (.290 and above OBA, 5+ ERA). And batterrs with A+ eye put up .315 OBA.

I really have no idea any more what the reliable indicators of good performance are.

Some kind of official clarification would be nice BTW.

But these leagues are suddenly filled with 50% Paul Byrds and 50% Omar Daals

Yeah but what do those ratings mean now??? What kind of level of performance should we expect from those ratings?

The problem is that it is increasingly difficult to asess the true quality of the player from the scouting report.

... and it is to hard to tell how good they will be from past performance. This should be easy most of the time, but it isn't.

The 2002 upgrades I have noticed a big problem with player ratings compared to performance,In one of my leagues I had a A+ contact 3rd baseman gave him a year in the minors then brought him in and he batted .250 for the first 4 years of his career before breaking out this year and hitting .280,I repeat he was A+ contact the whole time, what gives??In the same league Alex Escobar and Richard Hidalgo both have gone to garbage despite having great letter grades, not being injured and both in the 26 -32 age range,I could see this being a freak thing but I have noticed similar problems in all my leagues. Also pitchers are very inconsistent in all my leagues.I was wondering if this has been identified as a bug or if anything is being done about it as I have noticed the grumbling over this issue increasing through out all leagues:(

Attached is a jpeg of Vladimir Guerrero's Scouting Report in the 2006 season (when he's 30).

Notice the .245 AVG, the .339 OBP and the .384 SLG. Is this just an off-year? Possibly. However, notice also the A+ Contact and A+ Power ratings.

Something smells and I think it's some of the new coding in the game. Hopefully, this will be addressed, i.e. fixed, ASAP.

Sorry for the delay in responding.

This has been identified as a bug.

We have a fix out for the CD game, but we are still waiting for feedback so we can make sure the new talent levels are correct.

We will attempt to have this fixed in the online game as soon as possible.

I hope so because this has cost me a season and a chance to make the playoffs because my be so-called franchise-type hitters and upper tier pitchers were absolutely **** this year. In Montreal, one can't afford to throw away seasons when the big salaries are dished out in order to attempt to line all the ducks up in a row.

How in blazes did that bug get into circulation anyway??? I'm going outside now to enjoy the summer!!!

Tom

Please let us know when this bug has been fixed.

I've been driving myself crazy trying to set my pitching staff.

Thanks!

This is an important issue and would like to keep it near the top of the list.
