View Full Version : Media (60 Minutes) Strikes Again. (Rant-Ignore)

This is a rant, hopefully for self-therapy. So, hopefully, if you've accidently clicked here, stop now, for your own sanity.:D

I usually like 60 Minutes well enough, but lately the entire media has been on the "drugs are evil" charade they go on once in awhile. A couple weeks ago it was CNN reporting the pain pill prescriptions have doubled since 2000. ( OMG, we're all going to ****!). Tonight it was 60 Minutes discussing the out of control medical marijuana dispensers in California ( OMG, we're all going to ****!). Won't be long before they'll start on the porn bandwagon as well.

Man, this drives me crazy. You know what the truth is about pain pill prescriptions?? There should be zero, not doubled, because they should be available over the counter like they are in most other countries in the world. Will some abuse them?? Yep. Just like some abuse alcohol now, and some abuse glue now, and some abuse ........ We could go on and on. And the crime about limiting pain pills is they actually do provide real relief for real people who are really suffering. And, because of our paranoia over those that abuse them, Doctors are afraid to write too many prescriptions, and real people in real pain don't get relief in the name of stopping drug abuse. I'm sure (if polls are accurate) most reading this agree with our policies on drugs. Well, the next time you see an old man or old woman limping down the street, or unable to grip their cane's because the arthritis in their hands hurts too much, I hope you feel warm all over, because frankly you make me sick. And usually the same bunch that wants to tell others what they can and can't buy at the drug store are the loudest screamers when someone else wants to tell them what they can and can't buy at the gun shop. Hypocrites.

There, rant over. You know what, I DO feel better. At least until the next time I see something that reminds me of how some are so arrogant they can tell others how to live, what they can and can't buy or read or watch or do with their own bodies, etc. etc. Really pisses me off.

Right?!?
lol

The sad thing is, that really is the way that they produce those programs.

For what it's worth, I agree completely with your rant.
You know, there was actually a study done a few years ago (Journal of Medical Science?) that I heard about where they completely debunked the need to meter pain medications. As long as the patient isn't or wasn't an addict in the past, the conclusion was that for pain medication a patient is better off determining their own doses. Obviously, there are some limits (some medications can shut down your liver, pancreas, kidneys, etc... in a high enough dose), however in hospitals now days after surgery they'll hang a bag of Morphine or whatever and allow a patient to simply press a button for a dose whenever the patient needs it.

Pharmacies can recognize and control dosage of medications anyway. They do it with what's-it-called, that antihistamine that people use for extacy or whatever, now anyway. It's pretty simple, you don't allow people to purchase 10,000 pills at a time...

Oh man, Ohms you hit it on the head!!! I go to the drugstore now and ask for Sudafed, and I have to show my drivers license, and sign for it. Sudafed! And you know what??? that's perfectly ok with me. I mean, why not do the pain pills the same way??? I don't want my son to die in a firey (man, I know that's spelt rong :D)crash any more than anyone else, so make it legal, make us sign, make us show ID, make us consent to the gov't monitoring how often we purchase, and then make it legal without a doctor's prescription. What is SO wrong with THAT picture????
