What is the "Payroll limit"? I notice all my teams have one, and they're all over it (by a large amount), so I can't bid on free agents... but all of my teams are turning a profit, and this limit is a different number for each of them...

What's going on?

Anahiem in fast sim 18, who at the end of last season, had a payroll 10 points under their budget is suddenly over budget.

They were over the limit also. I had to reduce their expenses to get them under the limit. Now I'm not sure how much I should bid for the FA's I need.

One thing ... check your ticket prices ... on mine they had been reset to the level that my teams started their games (Anahiem started at -10%, I had them at normal, but after the update they were back at -10%)

The payroll limit is unrealisitic. I am forced to have a payroll of 500 now. The past few seasons I have easily maintained a payroll of 600+ wihout going into negative points. This hurts the smaller market teams even more.

...as it seems to be a team-by-team set salary cap. A league-wide cap I'm all in favor of to help competitive balance, but setting (for example) a ceiling of 300 for Pittsburgh and one of 600 for Boston seems to just exacerbate the big market/little market problems.:(

my limit for the Padres is 215... but I made 379 points last season while winning 103 games... and broke even... and have 114 points in the bank...

my limit for the Devil Rays is 228... but I made 416 points last season... and lost just 15... and have 50 points in the bank...

So I've managed to build a couple of contenders out of these teams, but now I can't even pick up any cheap players to fill holes... I can easily see these teams turning to losers in a season or two... but I'll sure have a ton of cash in the bank, if the fans don't lynch me first... :)

Do the Mogul Dev's post explanations of the changes they've made? Because I'm not following the logic behind this one...

nysteinbrenner: I completely agree. This keeps small teams from even making "one all-or-nothing run" at a title, and probably reduces their chances of competing to near-zero...

IMO, there should just be a new league type to test a locked-income system... everyone gets 500 points a year, and goes from even... any points left over each year count towards your Mogul Rating, but can't be spent the next year...

No teams over budget, no teams with a handicap/bonus, just 30 people competing evenly... you could make it completely even by dumping all players into the free agent pool at the start, but I could live w/o that one... :)

My Oakland team has zero spending in farm/scouting/medical. We have won 91+ games the past three years.and are second overall in our league in mogul points.

Our payroll limit is a whopping 196.

Why do we have this?
All my teams are operating in the postive. I see no no reason to control spending like that, and I would like to know how this salary cap, works.

Will it stop me from operating my clubs, the way I like too, as their are some years when I spend more then my budget and other years less, depending on my chances of winning the title.

an explanation of this cap would be nice.
