View Full Version : Spending Limit?????

I am currently playing in three leagues. This morning, I noticed that my Budget in all three has severely declined from last night, and a new Limit number has been added. This Limit, I assume, is some sort of spending cap. On all three teams, the Limit is well below the current payroll.
I have spent a long time developing my teams under a certain set of conditions. I have made sure not to use any of the "cheats," have always traded fair, and have even helped other owners in my leagues when possible. Now, with a spending cap, all of my talent will dissappear over the next few seasons.
I understand that some people are upset about the financial reality of baseball, but the majority are screaming for more reality in this game. What's next? Will all teams have equal rookies with all C+ ratings? Will we remove the injury factor because some people lose a key player or two?
For those who want a spending limit, there should be leagues with this rule. For the rest of us, please don't destroy the fun.
I also dont like this cap.
All of a sudden, I notice that I cant sign any player, not even a $1 player, If I was in negetive money then i could understand this, but , as a Small market team, I need to be able to operate my team and to sign players that I feel fit. If I cant sign players as I see fit, my team's is going to be heading to bankruptcy, and a losing record.
I see, no reason why teams that are operating in postive cash flow should have this limit in place, if you want to restrict teams then keep it to those who over spend and are always in the negetive.
But leave the teams who are operating in the postive alone,
allow the owners to manage their team and their budget.

I hope there has not been a cap added, I just posted on this in another post.
If players want that then they should be in their own league for that. I don't want to suffer because some other twit does not understand basic math.

I run 1 large, 1 medium, and 1 small market team. With these new finances I'm gong to lose money on all of them. I've spent a long time getting everything running smoothly according to budget restraints, and now All my teams are like 200 points over budget. I agree that a balanced leauge is something that should be created, but people should be warned before the changes take place, or They should just use New leagues. I am very UNHAPPY with the changes that were instituted.
On a happier note, I love the new FA system of bidding. I still love the game, but we should have been warned about the fiance changes before they took place.

I just finished my _first_ season.
During it I traded away salary players for prospects, bought out and released veteran contracts and was 12th in my league in payroll.
Yet still in my _first ever_ off-season I'm (like) 60 pts over salary cap!
I don't like salary caps generally but this one is a little draconian isn't it?
If you're going to test a change like this wouldn't it have been a better idea to start high and gently bring the level down?
That way there would have been a slow period of aclimatization rather than this system shock.

Hi All,
I'm sorry I surprised everyone with these changes. I'm in the process of posting a full explanation of the changes (that I meant to go out last night).
You should notice that the 'Payroll Limit' equals Projected Revenue minus Expenses, plus 25% of your available Cash (or 0, if you are in debt).
I also made some changes to the underlying engine, so some big market teams will have less to spend. I may have made some mistakes and actually cut EVERY team's revenue. If this is the case, I'll fix it ASAP.
I'll keep posting throughout the day as we get this new version hammered out.
Thanks,
Clay

thanks, and Yes it does seem that all teams revenue have been cut. I know My three Teams (KC, Detriot, SD) have all been cut,

Yes all of mine have been cut, and it has affected the small market teams disproportionately. Losing 100-125 of payroll room on a Large market team is not nearly as damning as losing 100 from a small market team.
Especially as small market teams have to be MUCH more aware of their finances. I hope you look into this VERY soon. My reds won the world series (2nd time in 4 years) and I have in that time managed to coax my budget up from 280 to about 325. Now I'm down at 214, and have no way I can possibly afford to go into the season now.
I will certainly quit if I find myself faced with the choice of losing tons of money or trading off all my good players (which, really could only go to computer teams). Also, if you're going to screw with the amount of money people make you better look at the FA's. This last time round, with the new style, they were looking for 10 on the lowest end and 80-110 on the high end. The "new" economic model simply CAN NOT support that....
My Revenue and Prediced Revenue for my teams are as follows
KC
Last Year : 342
Predicted This year 294
SD
Last year: 538
Predicted This Yeare: 544
DET
Last Year 276
Predicted This year 241
Based on this, my Small market teams, are being hit hard,
and my Medium market team, has quite a few resources.

We just posted a new version with a revised financial engine that raises all revenue amounts by about 25%...
