5 of the first 6 players were all drafted from my team. What the ****. So lame. I lost one starting pitcher, my setup man, a minor league starting pitcher that was 10 and 5 with a 2.90 era in AAA this year, another AAA starter, my bench infielder (92 over all rating), and an 89 over all rated RP from my bullpen.
I guess the best way to look at it is that i had enough good players to protect that I couldnt even protect these guys.
Funny thing is, they got Hank Aaron from Cin. who had squandered him (he has 80s ratings and wasnt even a starter).

ahhh, i was wrong, it wsa 7 of the first 7 from my team. During an expansion year do the expansion teams get first crack at Free agents? cause after the draft, theres no one left on the Free agent market worth signing.

Same thing happened to me.
And here's what not to try and fix it. When the next expansion draft came up, I sold off everyone in every level of my organization that I couldn't protect. In other words, I trimmed my roster so everybody left on my roster was protected. I thought that was pretty clever. Excepting the game then proceeded to draft players off my roster "protected" or not.

In expansion years if I have verterens who are up for extensions that I usually wouldn't re-sign, I keep them. Hoping that they either pick him instead of someone else on my team or to have as insurance in case of my team geting "raped" as you so aptly put it.

I actually went through the draft a few times trying different things, cause i wasnt sure exactly how it worked. What I ended up doing was signing two free agent pitchers before the draft. One got drafted from me which bumped one of my guys down. So instead of losing two of my best bull pen guys I only lost one, my setup guy. It still kinda sucked cause he was very good, but i think he is about to hit a steep down hill decline anyways. His health is down to 70. I did sign him to a new 100k contract right before the draft though, so hopefully that screws them over for taking my guy

It's been reported. I'd agree that it would be a "major" bug, except for one critical aspect. As lkcostas mentioned, he gamed the system trying to beat it, so it's not a normal situation. Allowing expansion teams to select protected players from his team is probably actually a good thing, since it's punishment for attempting to circumvent the system.

I too have always found expansion drafts to be aggravating as h*ll, although, thats baseball. In particular, as Rogue9 is facing, are the back to back expansions when the AL added the Senators and Angels in 1961, and then the NL expanded to Houston and New York in '62. You lose a lot of good players, expecially, as must be in Rogue's case, you have a very good team. You cant protect all the decent players, so many are lost.
Thats kinda funny...what lkcostas tried. I would have never thought of that. But now, I bet you could sell off all unprotected players, except maybe 7-8 marginal players, and let those players be taken in the draft.

Its ok though, I guess. It was getting too easy anyways. Although, I dont have hardly any position player prosepects that I drafted, and my best pitching prospects are barely above avg. Just makes it more challenging I suppose.

Seems like the best way to protect yourself, as someone else suggested, is just to have a lot of players on your roster, that for some reason the game will draft some garbage players if it has enough bodies to choose from. It does too, so that helped a bit.

ehhh I dont know about that. Prior to the first draft I had alot of prospects, both position and pitching, and they took my best of each pretty much.

Maybe I got lucky, but I had held onto everybody I drafted for several years approaching that expansion, and had, I think, literally fifty or more players in my organization, and it did take some guys that were poop and going nowhere. Maybe I just got lucky, or maybe it filled some holes by position later in the draft???

i thought that IRL expansion teams were only allowed to take at max 2 players from one team in the expansion draft...that's how it was in 1997 for the Rays and D'Backs

I'm sure that that's correct. Just another aspect of expansions which needs to be added to the pile of improvements Mogul needs.

Oh my word!! Next expansion draft the first 10 of 10 were from me..... I had just built my position player farm up and it just got dismantled :(
Definately makes things tougher, but thats not so much fun to see all your hard work destroyed. I had a hard time acquiring some of those guys without cheating the cpu.
