Not a major issue but this is just going to bug me until I find out ... :)

Nolan Ryan is on the Mets roster if I start in 1966 or 1968. Shouldn't he at least be in the minors for 1967??

Um, no. Nolan Ryan's first major league strikeout victim was Pat Jarvis on September 11, 1966.

Thanks. I knew that. But what I want to know is why isn't he with the Mets if I start in 1967 but he's back again in 1968

Oh, I see what you're saying. Yea, this is actually one of the more major problems with Mogul and historic play, I just didn't realize that it affected Nolan Ryan until now. In real life, Ryan "skipped" the 1967 season. Really, he didn't skip anything; the Mets just chose to keep him in (AAA?) the minors all season. Unfortunately, to Mogul, if you start in 1967 there is no Nolan Ryan. It's a hole in the historic rosters that's never really been addressed.

You ought to see some of the WWII era ('41-'45) rosters...

Nolan did not appear in an official MLB game in 1967.

Check this link for his stats

http://www.baseball-reference.com/r/ryanno01.shtml

What BB Mogul uses are the official stats for each of the past seasons. Since Nolan had no stats in 1967 he won't appear in that year.

I believe you can create your own ROOKIE file for the 1967 season and make him appear that way. I have only been using the free 2005 version a couple of weeks now, and haven't figured out how the Rookies appear in the game (for sure). I have been able to update the 2005 version to 2007 however (last weekend).

This past week I have just been enjoying the game. ( I'm hooked ... lol)

I still love FPS Baseball 98 better, but it takes me two solid months to update the game each year. This Mogul game will only take a couple hours to update in the spring.

This Mogul BB game is on track to being the best "sim" for baseball, it just needs the actual "play by play" as in FPSBB98 for viewing. (imho)

You can create a 1967roster.csv file and place it in your Baseball Mogul\Input folder, and he will show up. It's not as easy as that though, since you'd then also need to include all of the other players as well.

There has been a PBP mode since Baseball Mogul 2007. Mogul 2007 happens to be available for free right now as well.

The type of PBP mode I am referring in FSPBB98, is one in which you can actually SEE the players turn a double play, run the bases, pick off runners and run down the flies in the outfield.

The players in FSPBB98 all look the very same. However, each player has his own NUMBER on the back of his jersey and you can customize each TEAMS uniform colors. You can also enable the Player's Name to appear above him on the field, just another aid to keep track of the players.

And I have downloaded a copy of the 2005, 2006 and 2007 game. I just have spent too many hours figuring out how to updating the 2005 game version to include and use current 2007 stats. I want to use it a bit first before I move on to the 2007 game and update it in the spring.

Yea, FPS Baseball was awesome. Mogul is a bit more about the financial/managerial aspect of the game though, and personally I find the PBP mode in Mogul 2007/2008 to be more than adequate. Opinions obviously vary, but I think many of us would rather have Clay and Ian spend their time on better AI and general game play rather than getting the PBP up to the level of FPS. Great game though, I loved it while I played it.

oh man...i remember i had FPS baseball 96...that was a fun game back in the day...when i was like..8 haha

I still remember the music...those were some sweet tunes..and the changing uniform colors tool...that was actually really really sweet...ah the good old days

Yea, I loved the changing uniform colors tool. We suggested that a while back, and Ian said that it would be too difficult and time consuming to implement in Mogul. I'm still hopeful, though.

yeah, but you never really see the uniforms...it would be cool if there was like..a team info tab that you could click on and it showed some things..like the team logo, uniform, year of inception, division titles won (and the year in which it happened), league championships won (with the year), and world series won..could also show the team's current payroll and such, and the hall of famers from their team...

ah i just remembered how one of the songs went in FPS 96...something like "it was play by play on the radio, play by play on the radio, play by play, yesterday, today, play by play, I saw it on the radio"

and the song started out with..."america's pastime, dimaggio's home...and that's all i remember

Do you have that file to Upload here?

No... at least, not yet. That's what I've been working on for months now. Well, not that file/year specifically, but I'm creating one for all years so that there won't be any "missing" players. That plus I'm creating some (hopefully) more accurate projections for... well, everyone.

Not ever???

I can imagine there would be a lot of players with sporadic appearances.

Nope, not ever. If the player isn't in the game when you create it, he doesn't exist at all.

Not a biggie. I still have Seaver, Koosman and McGraw so I will get by somehow

Yes, he should. Whining about it isn't going to make anything better, though.

Seems to me you can add Ryan Nolan pretty easy to the 1967 roster, if he is the only player you want to add.

I haven't tried this (as only having the game a couple weeks). But from what I have read.

You can load the 1968 year. Check ON the "Commissioner Mode", then go to Ryan Nolan.

You will then write down his personal information, then select PREDICTED and write down all the those DATA stats.

Now load the 1967 year. Select a STARTING PITCHER to COPY and enter the data you have from the 1968 Nolan Ryan.

I am not sure of the steps to take to get the EDITED Ryan Nolan onto the Mets team. I still new at this game ... lol

You might also want to get the free version of Mogul BB 2005.

You could then Select the 1968 season and use the LOOK AHEAD feature (which no longer is an option in 2007 and 2008). By looking ahead 20 to 25 years you'll get better PREDICTED stats to use for creating your Ryan Nolan to insert into your 1967 Mets team.

Thats done automatically now, in Mogul 2007 and 2008.

@ orig poster

you could copy nolan ryan from 66 (or 68 or 82 or 90 whatever) roster and add (paste) him to the 1967 roster.

see mod section "downloadable historic roster"

copy nolan ryan from '66, paste him to '67
then
rename 67 roster to 2007rosters.csv and overwrite default. (preferably after you make backup of said default)

start new game - select 2007 to load your edited and renamed 1967 roster.
year is in roster file, you will timewarp to 67, you will have Nolan Ryan.

Problem solved. (?)

One of the biggest problems for those of us that only play historical seasons. Missing players. I still play BM 2007, and I've been wondering if this was corrected for '08, but I guess it has not.

Start in 1967 or 1969, and the game includes Tony Conigliaro and Jim Palmer. But begin in 1968 and neither one will ever be in your game, since they both missed the '68 season to injury. Thats just bizarre. And, as someone mentioned, you cant even start in the WWII years (1943, 44, 45), because all the best players are gone (lost to the war), and in BM they never come back. No Ted Williams, Feller, Dimaggio, etc. Not much of a game at that point.

So, I gather that the schedule also has not been adjusted in BM 2008? Still 27 game road trips......10-11 straight games against the same team.....and one team finishes their season 2 weeks before a rival does? Major, major problems.

I'm guessing that the World Series is still historically incorrect as well, so that the "wrong" team opens the series at home each year. These are the areas that need to be worked on, in my opinion, before another version of BM is produced.
