Ok...i don't want any homer picks...just cause you own the system doesn't make it the best. I'm not the most technically inclined but i have a few questions;
1. Can PS3 which has a blu-ray format also play DVD's?
2. Does PS3 have an online gaming community yet and is it any good? I know this is the area XBox really slaughters it in.
3. Gitches, problems?
4. Overall thoughts of the two now and going into the future.
thanks

first off, for the purpose of transparency, I will admit that I own a 360, but not a PS3.
1. Yes, it can also play Blu-Ray movies...I BELIEVE it has this ability out of the box, but am not 100% sure of that.
2. Not as of yet. They are launching their PS3 'Home' service in the next short while. The service has a lot of potential, but I sort of wonder if they're shooting too high for their first attempt at an online gaming community. A lot of extra features that really don't seem to have a lot to do with gaming itself, so I wonder how popular all of it will end up being.
3. It seems most of these have been ironed out on both systems. the 'Red ring of death' still seems to pop up sometimes on 360 (usually around the release of a mega-popular game), but Microsoft has expanded their warranty program, as well.
4. So far, the 360 has hammered the PS3. But Sony seems to have realized they needed to make some changes, and are now instituting a price drop on their system, as a lot of customers mentioned that the high price was the reason they were dissuaded (this then led to a lot of games that were supposed to be exclusives going multiplatform). Also, their online service means that they are no longer shut out of the online gaming community, which is a big advance for them.
Really, in the end, go with what system has the games you want to play. Most triple A titles are now multiplatform, but there are still a few exclusives out there, so I would suggest going with the system that has the most games you want to play.
