What exactly is the effect of a career ending injury, other than not ending a player's career? For example;

Philadelphia - The hand stress fracture that disabled Philadelphia pitcher Pedro Martinez should have career-ending lasting damage. In the near term, Martinez is likely to miss two weeks or more of play. The 36 year old Martinez took the mound 30 times in 2008, averaging almost seven innings per game. His 3.78 ERA and 216 strikeouts yielded a 8-10 record on the year. The Philadelphia Phillies have a team fielding average of .982. They have committed 98 errors in 154 games so far in 2008.

This was in the EBL. Pedro came back and had a better year after the injury. Why was he only out 2 weeks for a career ending injury? Isn't that a little screwy?

Also, when a player has an injury that effects his performance, why isn't that known to everyone in the league? It should be common knowledge. Instead, he can be traded to an unsuspecting team that thinks he will be as good as he always was. It should be on the player's card that he had this type of an injury.

Very good points!

I'll forward this on to James.

You're right, because I always suspect an injury or something when a team wants to trade me their megastar for Joe McEwing.
