Just noticed that the instructions/league settings seem to be copied from my readme. I'm perfectly okay with you using the instructions, but those settings are out of date, so you're better off not putting them up/associating them with your rosters.

thank you sir.. these come quite handy in the way I handle our league.

I award Edit points for wins/losses to the teams, and they are allowed to edit their players using these Files and their points throughout the season. really has helped with the activity of the league. We're actually finishing up year 6 now.

Off-season trade (11/7/07):

Lidge, Bruntlett (to PHI)
Bourn, Geary, Costanzo (to HOU)

AS I said I didnt do ANY post season deals for the simple reason none of the above played for the team they were traded to. ;)

ALL trades:waivers post season were not included in the rosters as they didn't affect the play of their new club eg José Garcia to OAKLAND :)

UPDATED :Minor League FA's (http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/news/freeagents/y2007/index.jsp) contracts adjusted ;)

I'm having a problem with your rosters. I saved the file in the Baseball Mogul 2008 folder. When I go in-game and click "Resume a Previously Saved Game" the file shows up as "ROSTER 2007 v2.91". But when I click on it, the game data says "There is an error in the compressed game data." Do you know what I did wrong? I tried re-downloading it, but the same thing happens.

In a week's time! The new system of FA signings has changed the "rules" for FAs so I am waiting to see how the Lowell's (& even A-Rod is thinking of resigning with the Yankees) play out,a great example here on Reyes & Norton (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3110331) .

Also I want to add in a few more "rookies" who have been upgraded "peak" wise & am waiting on milb.com updated list of prospects,BA's top 10 organization by organization & that AFL/HWL play has finished. For example Nyer Morgan is now considered a "real" prospect to take over CF in Pittsburgh & thus I will alter his peak level.;)

I've raised Salary Demands to +30%, Amateur Draft Talent to +50%, Effect on Performance I lowered to -50%, the promotions all at +30%, and everything else at default.

I have contract renewals set to -100% because I make moves for other teams in my dynasty in an effort to better competitive balance (which, using Noll-Scully, CatKnight alerted me, is working well).

But again, this is all dependent on the roster set, as well as personal preference.

ASK him in his thread (http://forum.sportsmogul.com/showthread.php?t=141430) as the gentleman uses different ratings, stats,& has a completely different minor system set up (I believe he has assigned the '07 draftees to the draft pool whereas in mine the 1st & 2nd rounders are on their real life teams);)

oh my bad.i mean no harm what so ever

No probs at all, sorry if I came across harsh - not my intention. However, the set up of the 2 rosters are entirely different in their make-up,ratings & players - so 1 set of settings will affect the stability of the rosters play (thus I don't make any assessment of other rosters & play/use them as their instigator's settings or adjust them to my "feel" )

Above,is the settings which I used considering the ratings I obtained from the real stats I used - I simmed the 2007 to 2010 season 500 times & obtained IMO a fair & balanced result. As BM doesnt have a redistribution of luxury tax or revenue sharing it is difficult to obtain a realistic assessment, post this time,of the stability of the rosters & thus may need tweaking in 2011/12

I used those setting for 2.91 & Co & they work perfectly well.For 2.00 & 3.00 as the whole MINORS have been re evaluated completely & there has been the addition of 200 odd players the settings which are listed above work best;

2 different rosters leads to 2 different settings .Thank you for your concern.

Are trades included up to today in 3.01, as well, FRS?

Thanks!

Has all trades pre-WS (ie trades where PLAYERS played for the team on which they played. So no trades like Renteria or Young-Garza deal as non played for their new clubs.)

Has the FAs who resigned major or minor deals with their 07 clubs upto the end of the season eg A-Rod/Timlin or in minor deals Hinkley/Bacsik etc.

Remember you start play as of April 2007 Renteria played ALL his games for the Braves not Detroit so putting him on the Tigers roster IMO is illogical.Whereas a Texeria DID play for the Braves so his placement in 3.01 is Atlanta but in 2.00 it is Texas.

a)Arbitration deals & thus salary has been adjusted for the 2 year average (eg Morneau/Heilman);
b) contract extensions (eg Lowell/Pena of the Rays)
c) MINOR league FA's who resigned with their 07 clubs (eg Bailey with the Red Sox)
d) reviewed ratings of minor leaguers based on Baseball America's top 10 per organization,milb.com top 50 prospects,milb.com organization review & Hardball Times minor league season review & their actual production in 2007.

Does this yet include any and/or all '07-'08 Hot Stove transactions-to-date? If not, will you be waiting for "pre-beta," and/or "real-beta" to provide an update which will include these? If that's not your planned course of action, is there any potential chance of getting one in the real near future? No intention to have ANY Hot Stove trades nor FAs as I said previously the game starts at April 1 2007 & players are on the team for whom THEY played at least 1 game for.
I will NOT be making a Hot Stove update for BM08 but will & have already started the 2008 rosters for BM09.

Also, can you explain in a bit more detail, please, the 2 year average you underlined in updated:, includes:, item a)?

This is easy, for example Teixeira (of the Braves) earned 9 mill in 2007 & resigned for 2008 for 12.5 mill (avoiding arbitration) thus in 3.02 his salary at the start of the sim is (9.0 + 12.5) over 2 years or 10.75 mill,2 year deal.

Hey, do you think, ultimately, what we should do, is put (for now), just your two guys' most recent updates, and let the "jury" decide (assuming, for a moment, that programming a choice option for roster upon new game start-up either doesn't work out, and/or takes a while) which that they would rather have?

Um,what are you talking about ? Who are the 2 guys ?? BM08 starts with default rosters created by Houston GM & since they are 3 or 4 others who have made custom rosters (including myself) - each has his system for ratings & allocation of rookies & no one is forced to use any ones' roster.

Even when Beta does come out ,it will be a week or so (the time to adapt rosters:trades:ratings) before anyone can physically bring a roster out & I don't even know if BETA will be using Lahmann's 55 or 54.;)

LOOKS like Beta is going to be a "limited" release SO I have been working on 2008 rosters directly.

SO far:

1° Have edited the entire 2008 rosters csv/batting csv & Pitching csv;*

2° Have introduced the top 20/25 prospects for each organization;**

3° Have adjusted & added in "most" of the International FAs of 2007 eg JUlio Teheran of Atlanta or the 2 million dollar 16 OF of the Reds;

4° For PBP users, have redone the entire Pitch Selection using the info from here (http://forum.sportsmogul.com/showthread.php?t=169584) & BA/MILB/BP etc

The ROSTERS will be released when the game come out - but I have "tested" them using "pre beta" & so far (apart from 1 or 2 bugs in the actual pre beta :( ) they are IMO pretty accurate.

* these will be available in a zip file here to replace the default rosters

** some teams minors system are so poor they will tend towards 20 (eg White Sox),some are rich (Rays/Yankees/Red Sox) they will actually tend to 40....

Coming back to BM, the last time I played was the BM2k.

I grabbed your roster and was wondering if, as a new player, I should keep the league settings. I can always play around with it, but want to keep it as realistic as possible. Course since I will always manage my Reds (and have loads of fun just trying to turn a profit).

Anyway, thanks for the great work on the rosters. You (and the others who build rosters) add alot to the game!

Would it be possible for you to release a .mog file that when you open it up, it is on April 1st, 2008? I love your rosters, but I just hate seeing that April 1st, 2007 instead of 2008. If you can't no big deal. I would just sim a year, but players decrease, retire, etc.

Well, BM2k8 is for starting on 2007. If you want the start date to be 2008, all you have to do is open up FRS's roster as a .mog file, go into the league editor, set the start year to 2008, and save it.

But then, you'll have no 2007 stats.

It took me a while to figure it out but here is what you haved to do.You download new rosters2008.xls extract the files.Open the rosters2008.xls select all the players and copy. Then go into your baseball mogul game, go into Input, then go into Players then open it find the file rosters2007.xls open it select all and paste what you copied earlier over it to replace it.That should work.dont change the name of the file it has to still say rosters2007

3RunHomer
03-30-2008, 12:55 PM
You download new rosters2008.xls extract the files.

That would be cool except the download is a .mog file not a .xls file.

Anyway, I downloaded the .mog file and put it to use as instructed at the beginning of this thread. Works fine but the date is April 1, 2007 not 2008. So I went into the league editor, turned off injuries and trades, and simmed through the 2007 season all at once.

This put me at the end of the 2007 season, as I wanted. The only problem is that lots of players became free agents who shouldn't have ... Cano, Kotchman, Francoeur, E Encarancion, A Hill, Hart, Atkins ... basically an all-star list.

:(

frenchredsox i am having a hard time installing your new rosters.can you please tell me step by step how to install these rosters please.this is my first time having trouble with installing rosters.i used your rosters last year and you did an awsome job, keep up the good work. Here he explains it pretty well except it IS the 2008 csv file into 2007 csv file:

It took me a while to figure it out but here is what you haved to do.You download new rosters2008.xls extract the files.Open the rosters2008.xls select all the players and copy. Then go into your baseball mogul game, go into Input, then go into Players then open it find the file rosters2007.xls open it select all and paste what you copied earlier over it to replace it.That should work.dont change the name of the file it has to still say rosters2007

Alternatively you could open the 2008 roster file cut & paste directly into the 2007 roster file - unfortunately there is a slight problem in that the rosters are based for BM09 & Lahmans 55 is required to get 2007 rookies to work correctly AS players with 2007 stats in 2008.

No but the rosters for 09 "should" work if you installed Lahmans 55 (I just did an update ) ;)

Works fine but the date is April 1, 2007 not 2008.

........

Thats probably because they are 2007 rosters.

I cannot get these to work as well. When I start a new game, it only offers 2007 season, not 2008.

Please help.

You can't start in 2008 using Mogul 2008.

In BM08 on THE TOP of the game is an option to open GAME FILE - do that, then unzip the rosters & go into Input/Players file & simply replace Rosters file (cut & paste) .Close the file & start a new game it will allow you to play the 08 season, hope this helps ;)

Then how does this work?

I'm not exactly sure how you go about playing a 2008 season in BM2k8. I wasn't aware that you could import a new version of Lahman. I haven't tried it.

You can update the Lahman files in Mogul 2008, but it doesn't really give you anything... well, it does make the projections for some players more accurate, since there's another season's worth of data to use. 2007 is the latest start year available in Mogul 2008 though, and the only way to "start" a game in 2008 using Mogul 2008 is to simulate one season and use that saved game as the basis for other games.

There is a 2008 mog posted at http://files.simcentral.net/

All player stats are updated and include 2007 stats. Version 2 was posted this week and has current rosters included for the beginning of the 2008 season.

The file notes point out that the opening season is 2006 (mog is for BM07,08 & 09) but that the year is just off by 2 years not the stats or the rosters.

The '08 Reds are all there and stats all check out correct.
