I agree that a player should go down in defensive ratings when changing positions. What I would hope for is that when you change them back to their original positions they either regain their skill or don't lose more ratings.

I personally think that the entire fielding position system needs to be changed. Players should have one position listed as their "primary" position, but have ratings for each separate position. They currently do, as listed on the Skills page, BUT, the primary position affects the ratings at the other positions. I think each position should be rated separately, and the AI should ignore the "primary" position nearly entirely when sorting, focusing solely on the players ratings.

Agreed 100%. To further that thought process, I think that defensive progression should be at least partially based on where a player has been playing... so that it would be possible for instance to take a backup SS and turn him into a decent utility IF guy by simply, over time, substituting him into the lineup at 2B and 3B. Obviously it might not work as well to try the same thing with a 2B if he doesn't have the arm rating to hack it as SS or 3B.

And, possibly loose a few points if they dont play it for a while. But, they should be able to re-learn it quicklt. But for this to happen, being able to set a defensive lineup for the minors would be nice.
