One of my biggest peeves in PBP is that you can’t pick off baserunners or scare them to prevent them from straying too far from the bag. This is especially annoying when you’re up against teams who doesn’t really have those big multiple base hits, but squeeze out singles, steals, and bunts, etc. In one of my games, I had a really good pitcher who can hold the opposition batter to low averages, but once they get on base, the lack of a strong throwing catcher cost my team a lot of runs.

Best bet would be some sor tof control over the pitcher so that you could choose to instruct your pitcher to thrown from a stretch or not.

maybe give pitchers a pickoff rating. and aggressive / tendency vital
as well as steal against rating for the PITCHER.
(as a former catcher i blame most steals on the pitcher. :) lettting baserunner get a 6 step jump is hardly MY fault)

Andy Pettitte is renowned for his move to first, for example.

There seems to be a corellation between power and rto% and frankly it doesnt always make sense. lots of power pitchers are exceptionally slow to the plate due to the leg kick. some have a good slide step but then lose alot off their fastball. so while a catcher has a better chance in general if fastball instead of screwball, some guys are just so slow to the release point that its irrelevant they are throwing 99 mph.

in any event,
both pick off and pitchout would be great additions to player mode.

Excuses...excuses...

Garn!...I'll bet 'twas 'cos you invariably threw to third on a steal...

My excuse to a pitcher, for doing this, was ".. a base in the hand was worth two in the outfield...".

The real reason was, of course, an arm rendered flabby by playing only board games (computers weren't invented at the time when I played ball). I couldn't reach second!

Baserunners do get picked off already. I've seen it happen. It was very annoying.

Yeah, but you don't get to choose when you want to try to pick off runners. I agree that this would be a great feature.
