Hello All,

I apologize if this has been discussed before, but I did not see the topic listed.

Anyway, I'm interested in finding a data base similar to that of Baseball Mogul, which consists of practically every team, for decades, courtesy of Mr, Lahman.

Any guidance is much appreciated.

Roger,
If you are interested in creating a historical game you can use the attached files to get yourself started.

The Draft file contains:
All Drafted Players from 1936 to present (over 22500 players)
NO Non-Drafted Free Agents are in this list (ie: RB-Willie Parker of the Steelers)
It includes ONLY Players with their Drafted Teams (ie: John Elway is associated to the Baltimore Colts, he was traded to the Broncos after being drafted).

The Teams file contains:
The identifications used for each franchise & team in the Draft file.

Here is a summary of the Draft file:

#1 – LahmanID
Sean Latham’s methodology for the identifying players using the LahmanID has been applied.
http://seanlahman.com/

#2 – Player Bio
No weight or height information for each player is included.

#3 – Player Positions
Draft Results (1966 to Present) accurately reflect present day positions
Draft Results (1936-1965) Many positions are missing from these draft years.
A) HB positions may be a Running Back , Tight End, Wide Receiver or played DB or LB on Defence.
B) Tackle positions may be for either Offence or Defense.
C) There were no Kickers or Punters drafted.

#4 – Cleveland Browns
The draft results for the Cleveland Browns franchise (1950-1995) has been associated to the Baltimore Ravens and not to the “1999 expansion” Cleveland Browns.
NOTE: The NFL separates the Browns (pre/post 1995)history and Ravens history.

#5 – USFL
The 1984 USFL Dispersal Draft consisted of 3 rounds. These 3 rounds have been added to the 1984 draft year. Rounds are labeled 21, 22 & 23.

#6 – Supplemental Picks
There have been 37 Supplemental picks since 1977. These Players are included in their draft year, but the Pick & Player Draft # have been set to 0.

#7 – Nicknames
Over 250 players have been identified by their common nickname instead of their real first name. (ie: DE-Charles Smith is set to Bubba Smith)

#8 – Draft Re-entry
During the 1940s, 1950s & 1960s several players were drafted twice. In some cases they elected to stay in college or prior to the AFL/NFL merger. In each case the 2nd drafting team & year were chosen.
(ie: Joe Namath played for the NY Jets, not the NFL St.Louis Cardinals who drafted him)

Using this draft file then, it would be possible to start a dynasty in, say, 1966 and have the correct players appear in each year's draft? But the skills they came into the league with would bear no relation to their actual, historic abilities?

How do you get this roster to work? I'm lost.

Anyone have a clue how to use these? I've tried several different ways but can't get the program to point to these files to use historical teams and rosters...

I tried to figure this out and basically gave up.

I think that draft.csv needs to be copyied and pasted into one of the other CSV in the lahman folder. Which one, I am not exactly sure. I was thinking the rosters.csv but the columns don't match up.

There is no draft.csv in the lahman folder.

Gonna keep experimenting to try and figure it out. I did figure out how to completely wipe out NFL players by accident, for those trying to create a fictional league.

Same problem...I tried all sorts of things and nothing worked...
