View Full Version : Negro Leagues?
I was looking for some type of interesting league to run, and it hit me. Why not run a league of the former Negro Leagues? Is there any way I could do this or no?

Use the create/edit player to create the players and rename the teams and stuff, I'm not sure how much else you can do,

One can easily grab the player id's for those in the HOF.
as for the "regulars"
If one knows many of the player names off the top of ones head,
one could browse thru the Master.csv in the lahman folder using spreadsheet
(or browse thru the year by year historical rosters in mod section)
copy all appropriate player id's into a new roster csv / or list.
start new game using default team names - new rosters,
then rename the teams while in the mog and align the league as needed/desired
I'm sure many would truly appreciate such a roster / list.

Very cool to try I would think. I would be one to appreciate the roster file.

try this site. www.nlbpa.com It's the official site for the Negro League Baseball Association. Has most players listed. From there you should be able to do MeetDaMets said and look in Master.csv to get the Lahman ID.

not finding actual lineups or sites that even show ALL the players on the teams. I can find lists of players though not all and also stadiums and such.

Try the above link for a book at Amazon.com. It's only available in used condition but it might be at a library too. Has all stats and all Negro Leagues.

Yes you can although it is a little complicated - either
a) use Baseball reference to find their Lahmans ID if they played in the MLB at some point & then adjust their corresponding .CSV file (eg a batter his batting & fielding file & insert his stats for the start year of your game),for the others who never played insert them as Lahmans rookies eg Joe Smith becomes smithjo51 & again insert their stats in the CSV file or
b) (as Coach Owens pointed out) create a game & create the players through "commisioner mode" - simpler but you will have to do it each time you start a new game :( ;
Also here is a thread on the subject (http://forum.sportsmogul.com/showthread.php?t=151602&highlight=Negro+Leagues) which will help you out ;)

c) you can create a "re-startable" league if you make a custom roster.csv along with vitals batting pitching fielding csv's.

note that if you choose to enter the predicted stats thru comm mode rather than hand create the batting pitching fielding csv 's you can then go to
tools / output stats and tell the game to output batting pitching fielding csv 's.
'course it would help if OP continued the discussion.
