Sorry if I haven't logged in here lately...
I haven't made much progress to the namefile for the past few months.
Do you think a new set of names are necessary for the program? In my experience, some of the players (when fictionalizing) do not reflect the names used in that era.
The game should be using names appropriate to the era during the season of choice (e.g. 1960's names should be common names). I wonder if this would be hard to implement...
And... who else has made namefile mods for the game for earlier seasons? Or would I be the first to post a namefile mod on this site?

Hi. I just bought BM2009 and plan to make updates to the name files since I use fictional teams only. I had BM2007 when I last played, and it unfortunately only used 3 categories of first and last name files (normal, Spanish and Japanese). None of the other files were used as best as I could tell (after a lot of testing). Also, there is no ability to change from a 1950s version of these files to a 1990s version, so you basically have 3 sets of files to work with. I'm going to test the BM2009 files a little bit and see if perhaps some of the other name files are used but I don't expect it.
The other thing I'll test is how frequently the game uses the normal, Spanish and Japanese files). From memory, normal gets around 85% or more of the names, while Spanish gets maybe 10% and Japanese might get 5%. I don't think there is any way to tweak this, since the logic is within the exe file. I've tried making the files longer or shorter and it had no effect on the distribution.

Which 3 sets of files? Do you mean these: the old-timers name set, the baby-boomers name set, and the trendy names of today? I don't have much experience with Hispanic and Japanese names, though. I have experience with Filipinos' unique nameset, and Indian names.
I just got BM2009, and I plan to test the many small name sets I've compiled over the months.

As far as I've been able to determine through a bit of testing, the game only uses the following files in the \Input\ folder to generate fictional player names:
male.txt
last.txt
male-hispanic.txt
last-hispanic.txt
male-japan.txt
last-japan.txt
The various other files are not used. So if you wanted to create other name files you would have to replace these files (back them up first, of course). If you overwrite the "-hispanic" files, you may want to overwrite the Cities-Hispanic.txt file in the \Cities\ folder, or you will have players born in Latin America that have names that don't match up.
