Hey guys!
I just want to keep you in the loop a bit :) OOTP 9 is in development, but has not entered beta testing yet, so the release will not be before Opening Day. We will start a preordering period in March though, so keep your eyes open for a nice offer.
Here are few of the things that will be new in the game:
- In-game sound
- Totally recoded scouting
- Revised financials, including two optional revenue sharing systems
- Some nifty stuff for online leagues
- Even more improved historical league support, resulting in pretty much perfect results
- Player suspensions
- Improved interface
- Improved HTML & reports
- Tons of tweaks & AI improvements
- A great new skin
- 2008 MLB rosters
This year we will not add hundreds of bells & whistles, but rather improve what we already have. Feature-wise the game is already lightyears ahead of the competition, so we're focusing on making the game more enjoyable :)
The price will probably be $39.90 for the full version, and $24.90 in the preorder period.
Cheers!
Markus

What can they possibly add to that game besides maybe speed. Last version was pretty complete.

The play-by-play in Mogul is by far superior.

Interesting to note :
1) they seem to be following the same path as BM (ie no mega changes but an improvement on the game basis IE tweaking);
2) the introduction of 08 rosters (that is a direct "attack" on BM client base);&
3) a real push (if the info is correct) to upgrade OOTP on line.
:( & :) depending who you "root" for.

Rooting for OOTP. As much as I love SM they need a kick in the balls to wake up. Everything now is about online.

I need to give OOTP another try. The idea of all these features (player suspensions?? holy ****, they are light-years ahead) is very tantalizing.
That being said, when I tried their 30-day download, I was some combination of bored and overwhelmed...I couldn't easily tell any of the skills of a player, or where to do/what to go. BM has the advantage of being more simple, and more easily accessible...but if OOTP can do PBP, once you invest 1-2 days learning it I bet it is a much richer experience.
I need something...BM '07 is nice, but there are too many bugs and issues to make a steady game possible. MLB Power Pros is great, but gets cartoony after a while of playing. Maybe OOTP is the perfect game...I'm just too cheap to spend $39+.

I believe they are going to offer a pre-order special of $25.
I haven't bought OOTP since version 6.5, but I may have to give the new version a try once it comes out.

The one problem with OOTP is that it is slow. But it is highly customizable. You can even turn off many features including finances, import the 27 Yanks into the 2007 season (or any team into any season), import a player from the past to a current team (maybe Garvey and Hershiser can help the current Dodgers?), customize or reduce the schedule, quick sim innings when playing a game and much more.
It's the speed of Mogul that keeps me interested in mogul, but OOTP is a great game also.

OOTP 6.5 is the best version to date. The new format is really hard to learn, and I don't like it. The sim isn't as good as Mogul as well. It isn't as realistic as in mogul, where mogul has accurate career paths and such. As well it is sloooooooowwwwwww! Believe me when I say this, OOTP has a lot of work to do to catch up to Mogul. You can code a lot of features, that doesn't mean anything when it comes down to playablity.

What can they possibly add to that game besides maybe speed. Last version was pretty complete. They could add accuracy. I've done some 30-year sims with both Mogul and ootp and Markus still has a *lot* of work to do. Mogul has bugs but at least it doesn't have a fundamentally flawed sim engine .. he latched onto DIPS like it was Jesus incarnate and its just one more tool. I think ootp is to baseball what would happen if I wrote a soccer sim - a sport I didn't start watching until 5 years ago.

I put Ruth and Gehrig from 1927 on the Astros and I was able to win the pennant. Only takes a couple minutes to edit the roster file and Mogul does the rest. And the new schedule templates are nice although it would be nice if people made some more templates so I could play 154 games with 30 teams.

I can never play OOTP. The slowness of the game is just too much for me. I know that it may have a ton of cool features, but I will take the non-slugish Mogul over OOTP anyday of the week

I like a lot of cool features, but the interface is the least user-friendly game I've ever seen. I mean for god's sake I spent 5 minutes trying to figure out how to sim a day. And, when I found it, I think it was so slow I thought it had crashed.

I have mixed feelings. OOTP 9 has a lot more options that everyone is always asking for in Mogul. The thing I like about Mogul is the ease, forum help and BBMO. But OOTP has a lot more to offer if you only playing the CD version.

I pre-ordered for this:
Flexible Playoffs: A revised playoff system, with many more customizable options, has been added to the game, giving unparalleled flexibility when setting up playoffs for your league.
Exhibition Games: Exhibition games can now be played directly from the "Play menu," without the hassle of using the schedule editor.
It promises to be faster also.
I'm not sure if Baseball mogul will ever add this options?

Not sure, but I think what is more important is not the features, but the Simulation engine.

I am very stisfied with mogul. I am not saying that it is perfect or that there couldn't be another game that is better, but, right now, I love Mogul, so I don't see a reason to do anything else. Thats just me though.

Both games are fine - one tends to micro simming & has the possibility of multiple options (OOTP) whereas the other is limited in choices (only the MLB) but is WAY WAY faster & "more fun".
Just depends HOW you like to play - if in an evening you want to do 1 or 2 games but have full "hands on" control of every aspect of your club then OOTP is for you,if however you want to do 1 or 10 seasons & don't care about Japan or Mexico ball then BM is for you....

I had been trying for days to "like" OOTP and I just couldn't do it. Heck the first time I installed the game I was playing around for like 25 minutes before I even ran a game.
It is very slow though, I will admit that. It took far too long for me to get through a season, and I wasn't too impressed with all the different ratings. Too many ratings gives me way too much to go through to figure out who the better players are and all that stuff. All the different scouts, promotion nights...I mean the list of features goes on and one, and for some that could be a real draw, but for me it was just too much.
Too many things going on all over the place and I finally just broke down and purchased BM09 :)

Both games are different, so I am not requesting one or the other. But I do find that the BM requests that players consistently ask for seem to be the things OOTP has? I prefer to keep my BM requests simple so both games don't turn out the same.

There's a lot of people that play both games, and both BM and OOTP are baseball management games, so it's hardly surprising that there's a lot of cross over.
jcbarr makes an excellent point though, one that I try to keep in mind myself when it comes to suggestions here. More is not always better. There's something to be said for simplicity.

More is better ohms, only if it is coded right and the enjoyment of the game is still there :)
if it gets complicating, then heck no

Exactly my point, and to me, I feel that OOTP is too complicated for my wants. It's seems like a great game and a lot of effort has been put in to it, I just don't want to work that hard to sim a season.

I've been wanting to give OOTP a go, even bought version 8, but good Lord is it daunting to look at. Who wants to have to deal with a 500+ page manual just to learn how to play a GAME? How about a 5 page cheat sheet to get me going with what's really important?

BM is like Mexican food; in and out pretty quickly.
OOTP is like Thanksgiving; a lot to choose from and sometimes it takes a while to digest.

I've messed around a bit with the OOTP 8 demo...a lot of the 'extra fluff' can be switched off when you're playing (like the whole Scouting thing, which seems like more trouble and time than it's worth).

When I played 08 I turned off scouting as well. 09 seems to have simplified that.
I preordered. I want to see what they came up with. Their sim engine may or may not be flawed, but I suspect they didn't lose sacrifice flies for awhile, have runners tag up and go home from second, or lose the All Star Game either...

It's hard not to preorder when there is such a discount. Even if you will play the game or not?

Yeah, that's why I jumped in, too. I'm not gonna sweat 25 bucks, even if it turns out to be a letdown. And I can always get BM 09, as well (and probably will).
